nie rozumiem

06.04.11, 12:45
"Texas Governess Mrs Margaret Jones invited Verona, Italys Ms Benicelli to the Lone Star state for the official release of Jones lastet book Quick Italian Meals for the Busy Woman".
Pozdrawiam.

"....pani Margaret Jones zaprosiła panią Benicelli z Werony we Włoszech do stanu Samotnej Gwiazdy...". (czyli Teksasu)

Texas' (choc moze amrykanie zostawiliby texas bez apostrofu?)
      Italy's
      release of Jones' latest book

haha ...invited Verona, Italy's Ms Benicelli,

osoba ktora zadala to cwiczenie nie wystawila sobie dobrego swiadectwa

w podanym zdaniu oprocz sensu brakuje tez przecinka i duzej litery

Governess in Texas makes no sense.

          Governess, haha, jeszcze lepiej.

That's a pretty good example of what you can hear on the radio or on TV or read in a paper every day; it's today's edited and vetted prose in a journalese style.
Aside from the missing Saxon genitives, which I think are left out on purpose, all the other slip ups merit some scrutiny.

God, I shudder to think what you read ;) As it happens, it's not been committed by a journalist, it's the other group that's always to blame - teachers.

That prose comes from a masterpiece of a worksheet generously made available by Hueber's Sprachenportale, Englisch section.

        Today's prose, you say.

Was there ever a time when learned men did not puff up their chests to bemoan the decline of language? Was there ever a time when kids were well behaved? Time when academics, administrators, business people were honest; lawyers not greedy; accounts, reports and histories accurate ...oh, dear.

When was this Golden Age of language?

One good thing about today is that we are here and we can do our bit to influence things we care about. Which I'm sure we are.

          You know nothing about this.
If you must have your say again, stammer it out eloquently.
          • lapidus1 Re: nie rozumiem 08.04.11, 14:03
I see you've found more time to be rude and haughty about your assumed superior knowledge about how language should be used.

            You complained about today's language.

I asked whether you could name a time when the use of language by the populace would satisfy your requirements.

            A reasonable question, I thought.

The answer is, of course, that there never was one. I thought it was common knowlege, although there are people - I wouldn't want to accuse you of being one of them - who insist on be Egyptian about it. In denial.

I must emphasise that I don't mean those who care about language and enjoy its many uses in its many lovely forms. I mean only those who do nothing else but criticise and complain with eye-popping pomposity.

You chose to act like a twat:

            > You know nothing about this.
            > If you must have your say again, stammer it out eloquently.

I fear my eloquence will never meet your standards and my posts will only irritate you more in their imperfection. But permit me to make my position clear by borrowing a reply, with only minor alterations (can you spot them?), from someone whose facundity is beyond reproach:

This is obviously a very difficult problem. Perhaps it'll help if I explain that I don't give a flying toss about Mr Perk.

I've only got an estimated 37 years left on this planet. I don't propose to waste any more of them on idle chatter with a self-important gas-bag.

              Pozdrawiam.

I hate to say this, but because of the years-long sex equality promotion in media, there is nothing shocking anymore about Governess XY:

Alaska Governess Sarah Palin said this …
Arizona Governess Janet Napolitano did that…

Perhaps more annoying is the wide-spread use of Alaska/Arizona/any state… and Governor before a proper name as if Alaska Governor and Texas Governess were titles. They most certainly aren't.
