Self-employment

I'm thinking about registering myself as a company. Does anyone know how
difficult is is and what steps are involved? Any information on likely costs
would also be much appreciated.

I know that Companies House have a register of companies, ie company names,
that you can buy off the shelf, so to say. If you find something suitable for
your line of business you just change the registered address and names of
company directors. For a limited company you need to have two directors, plus
preferably, a company secretary.That is supposed to be a cheaper route (some 10
years ago we paid circa £300). If you have an accountant (advisable) he ought
to be able to sort out all the paperwork for you.
Companies House should be the first port of call for information.
I know it all sounds vague but might help in some way.

Thanks, Steph. I was hoping it would just be a case of enrolling on the
Register of Entrepreneurs and getting a solicitor to draft an agreement. Oh
well! The idea is just to make selling English lessons legal and more
attractive.

In answer to your question: yes, I am. I already work for a company which runs
school and in-company courses. However, I'll be leaving them at the end of next
month to either join another company or become self-employed.

Will your company be based in Warsaw? Are you thinking of what we call
`działalność gospodarcza' here? If yes, then I might be able to help you with
some info. I registered my little company a year ago and I'm a freelance
teacher at one of the Warsaw schools. Alive and kicking ;)
