I'm a student at high school/ liceum in Szczecin, I'm 16. In about 2 years
I'm planing to study English in Warszawa or Poznan. I'd like to know a little
bit about studies at univesity. In my school we are not using enough english
in speach, I think. How fluent in english I should be to feel comfortable at
the start of the studies?
Are the teachers from America er England?
Any others suggestions, please?
Have a nice Christmas !

It's very very very hard. Practise and learn as much as you can because there
will be no time for it during your studies. You will have all the lectures and
classes in English so you have to be quite fluent in speaking and
UNDERSTANDING. But studies are quite interesting so: GOOD LUCK!

I am studying English so I know something about the level which is suitable for
being a student of English. In order to pass an exam in order to be a student
of English you have to be around the CAE. You have to know the grammar very
well. Before the exam you should do a lot of tests in the grammar. There are a
lot of books called English in Use. ( the Vince Grammar for FCE and CAE ).
In Warsaw there is only English in use and some translations during the
entrance exam. In Poznań there is a test but also an oral exam. During the oral
exam there are different questions. You have to be really fluent in English.
Your speaking English should be above FCE. There are questions like: Tell me
about yourself. Political events which have happened lately, The problems in
the environment. There are a lot of good books for matura with topics. You have
to read such books. Beside you have to read ''The Time '' or ''Newseek'' in
English. The entrance exam is one thing but on the other hand in oder to pass
the first year exams you have to know a lot of words around 50000. During the
first year of English studies you read books in English and you listen to
lectures in English . Beside as a student of English reads ''Hamlet'' or other
English books. Before the entrance exam the best idea is to read some books in
English. Apart from it is good to listen to English and American channels. I
wish you a lot of good luck during your entrance exam.

well studying in English is pretty much easy, but only if you speak it
fluently. lectures, tutorials and all the staff concerned with studies is in
English so there`s no time to check sth in a dictionary or to ask fellow
students what`s up. As a matter of fact I`m studying biotechnology in English
at International Faculty of Engineering (Faculty at Technical Univeristy o
Łódź0, so I can say sth about studying in English. I don`t know whether you
wanna study only english or maybe something else conducted in English. It`s
much better to study sth else because you get ability to speak English as well
as some other knowledge. I would strongly advise you to check the internet
site of my univeristy to collect info about studying Mechatronics,
Biotechnology, Telecommunication&computer Science or Business&Technology at
        IFE. www.ife.p.lodz.pl
        best wishes

All lectures are in English, but after 2 weeks there is no problem
          with understanding - belive me.
          good luck

      Hey,
just like my title says-if you love English, go for it. But be prepared for a
hard work. The common misconception is that you are going to learn how to be a
teacher, but this is only one side of the story. You'll have a lot of classes
in linguistics- phonetics, phonology, syntax, etc. It's not easy for someone
who never experienced it, especially if it's in English. But it's doable, and
very interesting. Yes, you'll have to read Beowulf (book from Old English
times), and Hamlet, and many other books. You'll have to write papers and
assignments. In order to get through the entry exams, you need to know the
grammar. You also need to be fluent in speaking. During the oral exam, they
mostly look at how you say things, and not really what you say. So pay
attention to your grammar and vocabulary. Study words, a lot of them. Read
articles (not necessarily Newsweek, it can be something easier) and underline
all words you don't know. Study them until you have enough. This will come
useful when you are taking your first-year exams. I'm not sure if you need to
know thousands of words, as someone writes in this forum, but you need to know
a lot. But you have a lot of time doing it during your school year. My advice
to you is- study hard now, learn as much as possible, because all classes are
in English. If you have a chance to go abroad for summer, do it. I'm talking
from my own experience. I took a break after high school and went to the USA.
It was the best experience in learning the language, because you immerce
yourself in it. Then I applied for English philology in Poznan. A propos, I
quit after my sencond year only to continue my studies in the USA. I just
graduated with a degree in linguistics and I love it. I'm doing my master's
program now, and English is my hobby as well as profession. If you have a
chance to study in America (which is not difficult at all) I recommend it to
      you with all my heart.
Your English is quite good, and you still have time to learn more. Take
tutoring in conversations, practice speaking, and you'll be fine.
Good luck. Write if you have any more question.
      G.

You seem to pretty fluent. Keep it up and you will surely
make it! Minor mistakes don't matter.

As for the teachers, most of them are Poles. There are
however a few Americans and Brits.

The studies? Well, the whole first year is a nightmare!
Up to 10 hours a day spent in classes. The second year is
difficult. Life begins after the second year!

      Good luck!

Your English is already very good. Don't worry--you'll do fine. It'll be much
easier than you think. Don't listen to people telling you you'll have to know
50,000 words--they don't know what they are talking about. Finally, choose
Poznan. Warsaw University is a good school, but Poznan has the best English
      programme in Poland, by far.

Yes Poznan is the best but Sosnowiec is right behind.
