what does it mean really? :)

Hi Jonny,
I like listening to people at work and I am learning to understand
them. I have some new things which they repeat and I want to make
sure I understand the meaning:
1. "by looks of it"
2. "every now and then"
Thanks&Regards!

      Hi Agata,
1: "By the look of it.." we use when we can form an opinion or idea
about something by its appearance..for example..."By the look of it
I'd say that car's at least 20 years old." Or.."Ah...heavy
clouds...by the look of it it's going to rain.."

2: "Every now and then.." means occasionaly/sometimes...for
example.."Every now and then I go to the theatre..." or "I see
      her...every now and then..."

Somehow I feel that "every now and than" should mean "always" :)
Seems more logical to me ;)
