Cross, Sovereignty, Defamation

This is the first part. Next will follow under 9a. POLISH History Cross,
Sovereignty, Defamation.

Hoping to broaden the readers' interest in the Polish-Jewish-Christian
relations and the part of WWII known as "Holocaust", numerous comments are
added as they come to mind while writing this article, beyond the stated title.

On July 27, 1998, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) issued a
press release titled "New Crosses at Auschwitz Must Be Removed".

"The symbols must be removed immediately", " ... the venom and hate mongering
by individuals who represent only themselves cause intractable problems, which
are difficult to untangle." said Miles Lerman, Chairman of the Museum's Council
since 1993.

The first issue is the matter of a 26-foot cross erected outside of the
entrance to Auschwitz to commemorate a 1979 Papal Mass, and the placement of
little crosses by Catholic Poles following demands by Jews to remove the large
cross because: " ... visible from the former death camp, [it] disturbs the
memory of the 1.5 million Jews who died there."

The much broader issue is Poland's sovereignty.

The USHMM is supported by millions of U.S. taxpayer dollars. Some of those
dollars come from Americans of Polish descent. There are about 20 million of us.

To an American, the immediate question is: Why is there a "U.S." Holocaust
Memorial Museum ? Why is it standing on American soil when the "Holocaust" was
not perpetrated by Americans and not upon American citizens ? Why are Americans
paying for this Museum including high salaries for its staff ? If at all, such
a museum such encompass all who perished caught in the madness of WWII
including Germans and Japanese.

To a Pole, the immediate question is: What bloody right does Miles Lerman have
to use a U.S. federal organization to make demands on Poles respecting their
actions on their own sovereign soil ?

To any Christian, or a person of any faith except Jewish, the questions
include: Why is the sight of the cross so odious to the Jews ?

Miles Lerman of USHMM, Abraham Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai
B'rith and hundreds of thousands of other Jews were sheltered and their lives
saved under the sign of the cross during WWII. Thousands of Poles risked their
lives to save these Jews. Many Poles were killed for extending the slightest
help to a Jew. Many were killed after betrayal by Jews they were hiding. There
are Jewish soldiers buried among Christian soldiers at WWII military
cemeteries. They are surrounded by crosses but somehow that does not "disturb"
Jewish memories. Perhaps because there are so few Jewish soldiers at those
cemetaries. It does not disturb Jewish memories or conscience that thousands of
Christian soldiers of the Allied armies, including Poles, died to liberate Jews
from concentration camps. They have not received a word of Jewish gratitude,
nor a single monument whereas "Holocaust Museums" have sprouted in major
American cities. In these museums, it is the Jews who are remembered,
the "Holocaust" magnified with each telling. Few words, perhaps, are uttered in
passing about "Gypsies, homosexuals and others". Poles fall under the "others"
and are usually portrayed negatively.

The incessant harping by Jews about THEIR "Holocaust", for fifty three years
after WWII ended for them, prevents healing of old wounds and instigates ill
feelings among generations far removed from responsibility of who did what to
whom. This harpering is political, of course. "There is no business like Shoah
business", and this business has netted benefits to Israel, by U.S., not
including monies from other countries, of $ 84,854,827,200 at a cost to U.S.
taxpayers of $134,791,507,200 since 1949.
