I wanted to post in hopes of perhaps helping others dealing with excema, or what I think of as the most mysterious ailment out there. In the spring of 2006, I woke up with two scaly, red, itchy patches under my eyes. I assumed it was an allergy and figured it would go away the next day. To my dismay, not only did these patches not go away, they grew to cover nearly my entire face and caused me physical and emotional pain for the next year and a half.
My eyelids, cheeks, forehead, chin, and most areas of my face oozed, weeped, peeled, itched, flaked, burned, and was bright red. Having never experienced anything of this sort in the past and being an attractive woman, I was devastated. Each day, I woke up in hopes of relief, running to the mirror to see if it had subsided, to no avail.
I worked with naturopaths, energy workers, MDs, dermatologists, and everything in between. It was the MD who suggested "prayer healing." No one knew what to do. But the "alternative" practitioners suggested it was a highly toxic liver and a poorly functioning digestive system.
Immediately, I went off the birth control pill. Fortunately, I was on no other medications. I went on a very strict diet: no sugar, alcohol, wheat, dairy, gluten, and ate mainly fruits, vegetables, and lean meats. I also began an intense yoga practice. I took many different supplements. It was the most miserable, yet eye opening experience of my life. Never before did I understand why people ended their lives until that time. I was beyond depressed.
I believe that my liver and digestive system were poorly functioning. Interestingly enough, I ended the relationship I was in and the symptoms ceased. I found a new love and ate anything I desired! My point in writing is that I believe we need to look at ALL factors when determining a treatment plan for our ailments, including what we put in our bodies and the emotional and spiritual aspects of our lives, too.
I had a bit of a flare up recently after the holidays. I saw the red patches under my eyes and was paralyzed with fear. But I instantly knew that I needed to alter my "holiday diet" and get back on track, and look at ways I was feeling stressed. I'm cutting out sugar and wheat again, which I think are all sorts of evil. I'm supplementing with buffered vit C, liquid b vitamins, immunogloblins, vit D3, oregano oil, aloe juice, flax oil, probiotics, and a whole lot of lemon water to flush the system. In four days, the symptoms have subsided.
I know how painful this condition can be, and how out of control you can feel. On the bright side, our bodies are clearly telling us through our skin that something is wrong! Make some necessary changes in your lives, and best to you!
