The Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776. Most of the delegates to the Second Continental Congress signed the document on August 2, 1776. By putting their names on this paper, these men risked losing everything if the British won the American Revolution

Deklaracja niepodległości Stanów Zjednoczonych (ang. Declaration of Independence, pełna nazwa The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America - „Jednomyślna deklaracja trzynastu Zjednoczonych Stanów Ameryki”) – akt prawny autorstwa m.in. Thomasa Jeffersona, uzasadniający prawo Trzynastu Kolonii brytyjskich w Ameryce Północnej do wolności i niezależności od króla Wielkiej Brytanii, Jerzego III. Ogłoszona 4 lipca 1776 w Filadelfii podczas II Kongresu Kontynentalnego.
