"US beauty company Coty Prestige predicts its latest launch,
Davidoff Adventure, will become a second pillar for the brand behind
its consistent top-five global line brand Cool Water. And having
actor Ewan McGregor fronting Adventure, is expected to speed up the
process.
Davidoff Adventure is Coty Prestige’s biggest launch of next year.
The line will hit the shelves in February, except for Australia,
which follows in spring 2008 and the US in the fall. The selective
distribution will be similar to Cool Water’s, although the pricing
is slightly higher at €44 for 50ml and €58 for 100ml.
“While we have a second line at Davidoff with [the high-end] Silver
Shadow, that target is sophisticated and narrow,” Coty Prestige
senior vice president marketing European licenses Françoise Mariez
said. “Adventure is a true second pillar because it has a wider
target (25 to 30-year-olds) and has the potential to be as strong as
Cool Water when it launches.” But she admitted that she was not
targeting Cool Water sales levels.
The choice of spokesperson is in Adventure’s favor. “Ewan McGregor
has a real connection with adventure because of his cross-continent
bike trips, so while there is a trend for famous spokespeople to
endorse fragrances, he is authentic and credible,” Mariez adds. Cool
Water itself has seen double-digit growth since it started using
Lost star Josh Holloway as its front man.
Davidoff Adventure will be backed by TV advertising at launch, with
some cinema advertising depending on the market. The high
promotional cost means that Coty only expects to break even in the
first year following the launch.
The juice was created by Givaudan’s Antoine Lie and features fresh
rainforest top notes of citrus, plus bergamot, maté leaves and black
pepper, a spicy heart of black sesame, South American pimento and
cardamom, and a woody dry-down of cedar wood, vetiver and white
musk. The modern hip flask packaging was designed by Alnoor.
Completing the line will be a hair and body shampoo (200ml), after
shave splash and balm (100ml) and deo stick (75ml). A line extension
is expected within six months."
