"French luxury fragrance brand Creed will close 30% of its doors by
the end of 2009 in an effort to exert greater control over its
global distribution network. Erwin Creed, son of company president
Olivier Creed, tells CosmeticNews the family-owned brand, which is
sold in more than 300 doors worldwide, will favor points-of-sale
with dedicated sales people as it implements the change in
distribution strategy. Some 20% of the brand’s 75 doors in the UK
are marked for closure. “It’s a question of image,” Creed says. “We
want to retake charge of our distribution. The more we tighten the
reins, the more they respect us and know what our ideas are.”

Creed was speaking at the launch event for the company’s new women’s
fragrance, Love in Black.
The new scent, a response to Creed’s bestselling Love in White
released three years ago, is the creation of master perfumer Olivier
Creed, and features top notes of violet, followed by iris, clove and
Tonkin musk.
The packaging takes the same sculpted ceramic form as its sister
fragrance, in black and silver with a black ribbon at the neck.
Love in Black will be sold exclusively at Creed boutique in Paris
until September, when it will be launched worldwide. Available in
three sizes – 30ml, 75ml and 250ml – Creed 75ml is priced at €98."

"French beauty company Inter Parfums is hoping to draw consumers’
attention to its first fragrance for French jewelry brand Van Cleef
& Arpels (VC&A), which it acquired from YSL Beauté in 2006. Housed
in a faceted, round blue glass bottle, topped with a tall sculpture
in zamac of a fairy on a branch, the women’s fragrance, called
Féerie, is designed to stand out visually. “We want it to be the
most beautiful object in the store,” Inter Parfums president
Philippe Benacin announces.

The idea is to work around two key axes—a very prestigious
positioning that connects to the jewelry brand, Benacin tells
CosmeticNews. “We want to be very close to the creative inspiration
of the brand,” VC&A brand manager Virginie Moreau adds. Féerie is
inspired by the recurring fairy design used throughout various VC&A
jewelry pieces.

The woody, floral fragrance features a violet note and was developed
by Antoine Maisondieu of Givaudan. The bottle design is by Joël
Desgrippes.

Positioned in the high-end ‘haute-parfumerie’ category, the line is
priced 30% higher than VC&A existing fragrance lines, with the 50ml
priced at €78 and the 100ml at €120. “This is probably the most
expensive fragrance on the market aside [from] the niche fragrance
offer,” Benacin comments.

The launch will initially be confined to very selective distribution
worldwide, counting less than 3,000 outlets initially, then building
up to 6,000 to 10,000 doors worldwide. In France, the brand’s
biggest market, Féerie will launch in August exclusively at AS
Watson-owned perfumery chain Marionnaud. In the US, it will be
available exclusively in 60 Neiman Marcus department stores.

The fragrance is also slated to enter Asian markets starting in
September through February 2009. The company projects the retail
turnover for the line to reach €5m by December 2008. Inter Parfums
expects the fragrance brand to generate total sales of €20m by the
end of the year.

Print and outdoor advertising will support the launch. A film has
also been produced for internet, the point-of-sale and possibly
cinema promotion."

second fragrance for Malle. The juice explores Roucel and Malle’s
