Stamp collecting

15.05.06, 13:39
I thought this exciting topic would grab your attention!
My 10 year-old daughter just loves collecting stamps and has learned so much
geography through it.
Of course, there is also the aspect of achieving your own goals through your
children - my wife's childhood stamp collection was swiped by her little
sister.
I'll stick to forcing my kids to stay by my side while I build yet another
sandcastle on the beach this summer. ("Do we have to, Dad?")

You've given me a great idea. I think I'm going to Obi to get some plantpots
and soil for my daughter. I've got a few houseplants needing repotting. I'll
tell her if it was good enough for Harry to be a Potter ....

Tomatoes are best - lots of upward growth. It's more fun if you have 2 or 3,
label them and bet on the winner (add fertiliser to your favourite, just to
convince the kids of your near-divinity).

Mine collects shells and has learned bugger all through it.
She lives hundreds of miles from the sea, so once or twice a year she sees a
beach and gathers them by the bucketload. Unfortunately in Largs there's only
about three different types of shells.
When I was wee we used to spend ages on the same beach looking for interesting
things living in rock pools, or at Gourock watching US nuclear subs that
officially didn't exist. But she's happy with just shells, and that's good
      enough for me.

If only you'd collected information for the Russians on sub movements ...
        Another opportunity gone begging!

Well, they basically went from the base to the sea, had Exciting Secret
Missions then went back again, occasionally dragging a trawler crew to their
deaths as they submerged and saying "Public inquiry? Into what? We don't got no
          subs here already!"
