Na Wsi...Is the Village Life better?

17.08.06, 02:20
Just got back from a great late night party and decided to check out the net
and a nice topic caught my eye. Is the village life preferred in Poland? It
is, according to the latest "Gazeta Wyborcza" opinion poll conducted
by "CBOS" - yours truly also agrees. Hell, banging away in the hayloft is
really catching on! smile Read on.

Personally I do not think there are a lot of incentives to live in a Polish
      village.
      - Very poor medical facilities. Here in Wa-wa I have Medicover on 10 minutes by
      car
      - Often no access to broadband internet
      - Very high degree of social control, including the local priests keeping tabs
      on everybody
      - No access to culture such as expositions, theatre, good libraries...
      - Often very conservative mentality and very suspicious of foreigners
I prefer reasonable-sized towns such as for example Grodzisk Mazowieckie, with
all amenities of modern life and not too close to the metropolis.

        Sobieski,

Of course there are many incentives:

-Your own home with plenty of land / forest around it
        -Clean air and water (unchlorinated)
        -Abounding Nature
        -Home grown fruits, vegetables
-Excellent for hiking, mountain biking, motorcycling, and ATV'ing
-Great for mushroom and nature enthusiasts
-Free energy (firewood) if you own your forest
        -Privacy and piece of mind
-Nearest major hospital to Siemiechow is 15 km, in Tuchow, about 20 minutes
        drive
-General practioners and dentists nearby and numerous
-We do have access to TPSA high speed internet access via telephone
-Social 'control' seems normal here, though it might be applied a bit more
strict than in a city or town
-Nearest major theater and libaries are in Tarnow, 32 km away or 40 minute drive
-Many professional exhibitions are held in the town hall in Zakliczyn, only 7
        km west
-Kasna Dolna (only 12 km away has classical music concerts in Paderewski's
        former palace
-Dance clubs and pubs are everywhere
-Major supermarket only 7 km west
-Major building materials firms in this village
-Good school system, football field, small libraries and internet cafe, annual
cultural festivals, fire station, Emergency service, quarterly town meetings
        with wojt, sołtys, and radny
-Indoor swimming pool being constructed in Tuchow
        -Ski area on location

It is true, locals can be suspicious of foreigners. What do you expect from an
area with a small population, especially when the foreigner is from a major
        city? smile

there'll always be people who prefer the village life and people who prefer the
city life... the issue is the necessity (finding a decent job is often possible
for people only in larger cities) and also the changing conditions of life in
cities and in villages (to some extent dependent upon the
intelligence/ineptness and the funding of local government). For me, the ideal
is a place with about 100,000 people; a place where you'll run into your
friends by happy coincidence, and can always expect to make more friends too .

          Dave,

So, are you going to delete the additional, unnecessary postings or just
          further ignore?

Sorry, but like I said I was away. If you would like to be nominated as a co-
            moderator, just say the word.

            I've deleted them now.

The repetition of your thank-you note was a joke, right?

It was so straight-faced, I thought I'd better check!

Dave, actually, it wasn't a joke. For approximately 1 1/2 months now, there has
been a problem both logging on to GW and posting. For example, currently, when
I hit the 'wyslij' button, there is an unusually long pause before the page
changes and the post is accepted. Sometimes, it appears that the post wasn't
accepted. Just to log on takes about 2 minutes now. This never happened
previously. It was once an instant process, now taking a while to complete. I
apologize if my previous posting appeared to be a joke. This 'pause' when
logging to GW and posting has become very annoying. Hopefully, this minor bug
will be cleared up as soon as possible. Again, sorry for this occurrence.

Don't sweat it Eugene. We all get these problems with the technology from time
                    to time.
