It's a brilliant place to go to on holiday provided you're well
prepared.
For the last 3 years I've taken my family to England for a week or
10 days, centred on: York, Cambridge and Salisbury. The first 2 fly-
drive the last by car all the way. The first time bed and breakfast,
the other 2 renting a flat/house. Every time it turned out perfectly.
Things to do:
1. Research accommodation
Get your own place and save a fortune on food. There's some
excellent places available through "Hideaways" in SW England. Book
it all over the internet. Chose a location with good road links,
like I did. The concept is day trips and maximising good weather.
2. Pre-book your hire car if flying
3. Research your locality very carefully
You won't have time once you've arrived.
www.ukattraction.com/ - this is a good starting point Print
out around 30/40 pages of condensed notes. You won't see half of the
things worth seeing but ...
4. Once you arrive, make sure you watch the TV weather forecast in
the morning - they show precisely where any rain will fall. I got
rained on once on my last holiday and saw lots of sunshine thanks to
this. We chose our daily destinations at the last minute based on
the weather forecast! That's why you need to have good roads all
round you.
My recommendations on places to visit in England: East Anglia (based
on Cambridge) and every county on the south coast.
