Jordanian students protest against Israel

AMMAN, Jordan - More than 800 university students shouted anti-Israeli slogans
and waved Palestinian flags during a rally today in support of the
Palestinians.

About 200 anti-riot police with batons and shields surrounded the campus where
the protest took place and blocked the main gates to prevent students from
marching in the streets.

"We want liberation, we want liberation from hideous (Prime Minister Ariel)
Sharon," protesters shouted. No violence was reported and the protest ended
peacefully.

Meanwhile, more than 500 private school students age 11-13 marched from their
school in the Rabia district of Amman to the nearby Israeli Embassy. They could
not get close to the embassy because of heavy security.

A similar protest took place today in Oman, where around 100 students gathered
inside the Sultan Qaboos University in the capital Muscat to march and shout
slogans condemning Israel and the United States. The peaceful demonstration
lasted two hours.
