      oops... hit the wrong key.
Anyhow, I've had a little argument here (in Quebec) with a Quebecois friend who
persistently uses the word "outdoor" as "billboard".
I have lived in English Canada for 15 yrs and I have never come across this
meaning of the word. Have checked number of dictionaries and have not found any
single instance to justify my friend's claim.

What gives? My English? Quebecois version of it?

      What do you say?

You can't persuade a Frenchman even if he's a french Canadian.

i have worked in advertising agency (in Poland) and "outdoor" is a pretty
common word for 'billoboard' in advertasing slang.

Billboard is a (type of /means of) outdoor advertising.
Maybe they're using "outdoor" for short?

yeah, but then again outhouse is a type of oudoor can, too...
hmmm, come to think of it there's lots of things that can be found outdoors:)

I SWEAR I am NOT making fun of it, just looking for the TRUTH.
And am perfectly well prepared to accept "outdoor" as a Quebenglish pecularity.

(Just as long as I win the argument :)

What is the name of the number1 company specializing in billboard ads
in Quebec? Maybe it's sth like calling a vacuum cleaner Hoover?

Were not the first billboards simply barns (and their doors) painted with
messages? And they were "out". Just like out"houses". Out-barns, out-doors, out-
        boards, out-bills...

"There is some truth in it, isn't there? Inner one?..."

            - I'm sure there is. If you say so, there must be. I'm just way too shallow to
grasp it. But that is my own little personal tragedy, ain't it?

            ps. i miss Poland, too.

It's not ...let me assure you!...

              OK.
              I'll be outrageously... wordy...

having managed to chase away Mdme tynski, (no mean feat!)

you still fail to pronounce yourself... against...

              injustice, maybe?
