evenin' all:)

Hi!

Just to clear the air. The use of swearing or abusive language isn't
permitted on the forum. However, if you consider swearing to be an important
part of a subject you wish to discuss here (part of prose, a story, a joke)
then please use the '*' between letters. That way we don't loose the meaning
of your message and I don't have to remove it. It’s a compromise as apart
from doing a free translations here or there:) - this is a an 'educational'
forum where we often discuss language. If in your view the discussion has to
contain swearing, then please abide by the above.

Any post containg abusive language will be removed. That includes removed
messages that have been copied and pasted.
Just because this is a portal using, primarily, polish language it doesn't
give us the right to abuse the fact that maybe not everybody (fully)
understands what we are writing about.

The red dustbin on your top right hand side is for all users of the forum. If
somebody clicks on it when reading your post, it means they feel you have
abused the netiquette, therefore - it gets removed. This helps stop abusive
posts and discussions that do nothing but go round in circles and get
personal. Although I am only a ‘freelance’ moderator, so to speak:)- I still
have people to answer to and rules they need me to abide by.

On a last note. This is only the internet. Virtual reality. I don't know any
of you personally, neither do you know me. However, getting 'personal' when
argiung your points on a post, isn't the way to solve a problem. We’re all,
only human:)

I answer any questions you may have through email. So feel free to mail me at
the above address but please take into consideration that I do not spend 24
hours on the net or on this forum.

Pozdrawiam!!!
Maggie:))))

I'm sorry to say that, but for me you're one of the problems here.
I hardly every come here now - since you took over it, it's getting more and more boring - one reason being your censor-like endeavours.

        Right on target!
Some of my posts were removed here in the past. It is only Internet and just
another forum but proven here and elswhere that controloholic moderator can do
        ruin forum.
    • mgz "No" to the ban on taboo words 19.06.05, 21:54
Swearing is part of language and should not be banned across the board. If it
is, then can we expect other parts of language (or specific words) to be banned
as well? Can one object to the use of word "red"? Or "small"?

And replacing taboo words with **** is hypocritical: we all know what is meant,
but some (here - you) do not want to see the real thing. If I say "f*** off",
      what do you really see?

I suggest you relax your rules. If someone uses taboo words to express some
specific meaning (that is, the word is necessary)- allow it. If, on the other
hand, someone uses such words to reinforce their language - then act to prevent
it. I realize that this may be difficult, as you probably run spell check on
all posts, and my idea of relaxing the rules would make your work harder. If it
      is too hard, then quit.

      Cheers,

      Marek

First of all sorry formy English - I'm still a beginner.
I must admit that I share the opinion of Maggie. Forum must be moderated. Some
people using internet do not behave properly, and thinking that they
are "anonymous" , they insult others or swear. That's the reason why I stopped
visiting my city's forum also at "gazeta.pl". I don't want to stop visiting
      English forum.
      Greetings

      I couldn't agree more.
    • nasza_maggie Re: evenin' all:) 23.06.05, 01:54
-I do that hoping for some discussion, or consolation perhaps, or
      explanation or whatever...
-Now the poem is widely known, cited often here and there... yet it's just not
      good enough for you.

Ok, most people here do that – that means giving a link to the
subject/poem/story you want to discuss – not quoting all of it. (Nie wklejaj
całych cudzych wypowiedzi lub artykułów - wystarczy je omówić lub podać link z
odpowiednim komentarzem.) However as I said if you really must quote it, fine.
      Just don’t swear.
And nowhere in your post was it mentioned you would like to discuss particular
parts of the poem. That you have a problem with it or a particular interest in
      the work.

This has nothing to do with something being good enough for me.
      forum.gazeta.pl/forum/1904849,62605,1617503.html
      It’s very simple.

Pornography is popular, footbal hooliganism, smoking dope, eating whales,
nudist beaches, joyriding, sushi, bungee jumping, collecting stamps. Doesn't
mean we all like it, doesn't mean we all do it.
Just because something is quoted somewhere it doesn’t give it the green light
      somwhere else.

-Then another threat started by me - I remeber clearly some six posts there at
some point. I'm sorry to say I wasn't able to read the thing... Perhaps too
      much criticism for you?

I am not the only person who can remove things from this forum.
Trust me I know a lot about critisism. And as long as it’s constructive – then
we have something to talk about:)

-You see it's been a hectic week really and when at last I get to a place where
I could read bits at ease, I see there is
nothing to be read... Instead I find this:

Yes, hectic weeks I’ve had a few and often the forum is a good place to turn
for a bit of consolation. Sometimes people make that difficult but I take that
as part of the job. Shame that your email box is the only place you can have
      some peace...

As far as placing private correspndence from your email box, well...

Lack of good manners for a start.
      Breaking the netiquette is another.
      Breaking the law also.

And if thats the only way you see to argue your points then I am not the
only ‘silly ‘person here it seems:)
So the post has been removed, don’t take it personally yeah? Maybe you’re not
      aware of the rules.

      ------------------------------------------------

-And why do feel you have the right to invade my private space? My threat was
meant to lead to some discussion here...

The net hasn't much to do with privacy. Sorry to dissapoint you but emailing
you on a GW mail address isn't invading anything.
Anyone has a right to mail you at that email address. Especially as you are
      logged on.
As for discussions : Jeśli zadajesz komuś pytanie, sformułuj je precyzyjnie.

-Then when I see it in a bit of text, especially when it seems to
make sense I see no point in cutting it out... You will cut it out here and
take to the whole mess in everyday life... How ...two-faced... and ridiculous...

It’s not two faced it simply means:

IN MY PRIVATE LIFE I take no notice.
THE RULES on GW state – you cannot use abusive words.

      -what does 'swearing' mean then?
I'll leave you to anwser that one yourself...

That’s the netiquette and the rules on any GW Forum. Like it or lump it.
      forum.gazeta.pl/forum/1904849,62605,1617503.html

      - Now, since you started the reign here, the place turned into a kingdom of
boredom... And there is very little here to learn from... it used to be
      different

That’s your own very personal and deep and meaningful opinion and ofcourse you
      are entitled to it.
People often have sentiments towards the communist system but we all know how
that really looked like in practice:) If you feel you can’t learn anything from
this forum, there are links and other web pages which I’m sure you will find
      resourceful.

-So you think that the word - f*u*c*k - written like that or in any other
disguise is any better than the word I'm not allowed to write here???????

Erm...Ok. I think you don’t quite understand. It means writing in the following
      way:
      F***
      Sh**

Is that so complicated? And is it such a big effort? No.
Also it is a compromise for EO as language is often discussed here.
You should learn to appreciate that.

-To tell the truth your likes and dislikes don't interest me:(((
Poetry is not my cup of tea...

Well, what a shame only your own personal views and likes and dislikes
      interest you. How incredibly selfish:)
And here’s me thinking you knew all about being sensitive to the needs of
      others!

And as far as hypocirsy goes – poetry is not your cup of tea, but you’re making
a big deal about a poem you placed here and you so much wished to discuss?!?!

You had the oportunity to discuss all this with me thru email – instead you
wish to do so on a public forum. Fine.
So, the only reason I can see you making a big deal about your post being
removed, is to make personal attacks and jibes at me. It isn’t therefore a
discussion but a playground manner which I cease to comment further.

This isn’t about censorship. It's about rules.

-I'm sure you have done good to some rude posters at times
The fact that you close your eyes doesn't mean that the world ceases to exist

      Wow! Finally some appreciation!
I know it ceases not to exist. However it needs not to be part of the forum.
But as this is a language forum – the use of swearing in a discussion is
compromised with the use of *.

Aside from all this, I am also aware of certain trouble makers who only visit
or comment on any given forum only to be of nuisance or bully others. (Strange
but true). Usually, they have been removed form another forum for their
disrespectful behaviour. They spam, they swear, they abuse and they provoke
much negative feedback. These trolls do nothing for normal discussions on a
forum. For that main purpose GW has moderators.

And finally, nobody forces you to come here, to read this forum, to like it. If
you don’t agree with the rules then obviously you need to either revalue the
reason you are here or maybe take a little time out and not take things to
heart so much. It’s only the internet pomponick!

My job is to moderate. You can discuss all you like, as long as you use the
appropriate form and language. We can discuss this forever but swearing will be
removed. Posts with adverts will be removed. Posts that have thier own
categories on the GW forum (ie: courses, private lessons) will be moved there.

      It’s V E R Y simple.

      All the best,
      Maggie

It isn't the case now. I think you must have taken me for someone else. I
rarely come here and the reason is that in some parts of this beautiful country
it's difficult to get access to the net.
