CAE writing word count question

which words are NOT counted in CAE exam writing tasks?
are articles (a/the) counted as separate words?
what about prepositions in phrasal verbs? "put on" = 1 or 2 words?

Prepositions in phrasal verbs are counted, so are all kinds of determiners.
