How about:

> -"firma handlowa" - retail, wholesale, trading firm depending on business
type

> -"firma handlowo-usługowa" - retail/service firm

> -"firma działająca w branży gastronomicznej" - food or restaurant or
catering firm, depending on what they do. If general, "food industry firm"
will do.

Regarding other suggestions, commercial means "przemyslowa" so I wouldn't
recommend it. Catering means business that cooks food on its own premises and
brings it to serve at the client's location.

I speak Canadian English, but I think in pure English the translation will be
the same.

Don't know what Canadians do to the English language, but as 'commerce'
means 'handel' rather than 'przemysl', 'commercial' is clearly 'handlowy'.

'Catering' is the business of supplying food, providing meals in
restaurants/bars/pubs/hotels etc. Whether you eat in or take away makes sod
all difference in the English speaking world beyond Canada. (?)

commercial isn't ONLY 'handlowy'
commercial property for example
has nothing to do with 'handlowy' - not only in Canada

catering bussiness is not a restaurant
it provides food but does not have eat-in option

Catering is providing supplies, including food, but also other services, to
supply social gatherings with what they need, or to entertain groups or
individuals. A call girl caters to her clientele, a restaurant caters to its
patrons, and a clown that a daddy hires to entertain at his son's birthday
party is a caterer, no matter where the party is held. A restaurant does not
have to deliver to be a caterer.


Commerce generally signifies an exchange of merchandise, an act of intercourse
between the parties that participate in the exchange.

Commercial, as an adjective, means engaged in commerce with the purpose of
making profit. Whatever product is saleable for profit becomes commercial.
The word has been corrupted and often means "not residential", "not intended
for individual use", but for "commercial applications".

Industrial means related to the production of material goods. If a company
does not fabricate durable goods, it is not industrial – some people are hard
pressed to it to call mining an industry. Food, tourist, fashion, and
other "industries" are industrial misnomers; they are other fields of business
activity.

The other day I read about "law enforcement industry". I cannot wait to see
the "professional management industry", the "news industry", the "government
industry"; why not, we already have the "financial services industry" – a
fabricator not better than the others. The Washington, DC, area should be aptly
named the "industrial plaza". Wait a minute, a "commercial plaza" runs rings
around "industrial".
