bank accounts

I have a problem with English bank accounts. I'll be in London about 15th of
July and I'm going there to work during the summer. I've got my Polish bank
account, of course, but I guess that there could be a problem with transfering
GBP on the account where I operate with PLN.
I mean, I don't really know how this money operations look like, is the amount
changed from GBP to PLN and so on... And I thought it would be easier to
create an account in GB.

So I was wondering if there exists any free account, where I don't have to pay
for monthly managing or accounts which I can resign from any time. I'm going
there just for 3 months and it will be a problem for me to pay for the account
until the contract expires.

Is it easy to create? Am I gonna need anything more than just my id-card or
passport? And what about the access to your money on that account? How do you
take it out or transfer to other accounts?

You will need proof of address (so a utility bill with your name on
it) and a National Insurance Number.
