Bottom-dwelling fish having scaleless slimy skin and a broad thick head with a
      wide mouth

I'm not an expert in this area but as far as I've just found out, the Latin
equivalent of this name is Batrachus. This is the name of the whole genus
(rząd). This genus belongs to a family which in Polish is called długowąsowate.
      Maybe this will help you.

thank you for your help :) I hope that I will find the translation - if it
happens I will tell you here the Polish meaning :)

Hey, Selphie, your nick kinda reminds me of FF8! Is it a mere coincidence?
      • Gość: SELPHIE Re: TOADFISH 2 .... IP: *.neoplus.adsl.tpnet.pl 04.10.03, 18:14
yeah ... selphie is a character from final fantasy 8 and she is just like
me ... and that is why I have such a nickname :)

She was cool, but Squall was even cooler. ^__^ Man, this world's so small...
And my own nick comes from FF7 - Sephy's mother, you know ^^ (but I'm
definitely not like her!) Anyway... see ya around, Selphie!

Selphie check the meaning of the word literal please.

But getting back to the subject I gave you literal translation because I didn't know the real one. That is why I used the word "literally". Now I've made an effort and guess what, according to The Great English-Polish dictionary by Jan Stanislawski toadfish means ryba-ropucha, so my guess was correct after all.

ok I understand it but, however, there is another meaning of it and I must find
it ... but I didn't know that it will be so hard to find translation of this
            fish ...

What a poor punctuation ... Anyway, I would expect that awalk, who corrects
everybody here in a very rude way, can punctuate correctly...

Poor poor me, it seems your expectations are wrong and can't be trusted, as well as your other opinions!

I don't know if you got all the answers you needed, but to find out more about
      toadfish go to:
      http:www.bartleby.com/65/to/toadfish.html
      www.fisheries.vims.edu/toadfish.htm
      personal.ecu.edu/spraguem/fish/opstau.html
Besides telling you everything about T., you willfind there photographs and
      drowings, too.
But for the big surprise, you have to go to:
      http:www.fishbase.org/ComNames/CommonNameSearchList.cfm
      Was it worth the effort?

!!!! finally I found it ... I'm so glad :) toadfish in Polish means "długowąs
żabi" ... thank you all for your help :)
      • Gość: Ichtio Re: !!! found it !!! IP: *.proxy.aol.com 11.10.03, 02:19
Just be sure that this name does not refer to "frogfish"; there is "toadfish",
and there is "frogfish", they are not the same.

yeah I know that they are very similar but I'm sure for 99% that this is the
correct Polish meaning ... if you find some other meaning just write it here
          and I'll check it :)
