whisper of the heart

hi, my native teacher marked this phrase as inproper. Is it really that bad?
So how to describe "following what the heart tells you" as an opposition to
rational thinking and calculations?

You can say (for example), "I followed my heart and went to see
her." To indicate an emotional decision without rationale.
Or, "Follow your heart and you'll enjoy life more."
