Belgorod nuclear submarine architecture to be completed as envisaged by the
government defense order for 2006, stated a representative of Severodvinsk
Sevmash shipyard, which is to fulfill a submarine building order.
At present it is ready by 75 percent, as estimated. Financing of submarine
architecture activities has been effected at minimum quantity till present
time, Sevmash representatives reported, with building work being funded at
final stage at Sevmash shipyard cost. Meanwhile, Belgorod was to be completed
as Interfax news agency announced yet a year ago, referring to Sevmash
shipyard representatives that time. As it was estimated 31 December 2004, 100
million RUR were required to make a nuclear submarine in question ready, it
might take 24 months to complete it under terms of full funding. A keel of a
nuclear underwater missile cruiser of Antey 949А project (Oscar-2 as per NATO
classification) designated as Belgorod was laid in July 1992. Later on, its
architecture activities were frozen. Belgorod building work was resumed
following loss of Kursk nuclear installation-propelled ship of same type in
Barentsev sea. K- 525, a leading submarine of 949 project, was accepted to
serve with North Navy Force in December 1980. After first two ships were put
into operation, architecture of submarine cruisers of 949А improved project
(designated as Antey) was launched. However, the undersea ships of 949 project
are currently put to reserve. On 19 March last, the 100th Anniversary Day of
the Russian undersea fleet, a keel of a new Russian submarine of 955 class,
Borey project was laid for Russian Navy. Tentatively, it is to be designated
as Vladimir
