Turquoise - Oludeniz

01.07.04, 15:33
Just returned from the area above, the Turquoise hotel was in a great
location and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Very much enjoyed
the
beach near to the "blue lagoon". Would recommend the Nin-Wah chinese
restaurant near the beach run by Alpay who was extremely helpful and
knowledgeable about the area and the country. Also the Oba restaurant just
off
the main street was in a beautiful location with a lovely atmosphere with
excellent food and service. Wendy's restaurant in Hiseronou is well worth a
visit. Activities excursions guide - jenkis was full of info on ancient
sites
and was happy to answer questions or even teach basic Turkish !!! We had a
wonderful holiday and would go back again.

I don't know whether I should be broadcasting this or saving the information
for those of us that have already been to Olu Deniz!
Oh alright, this resort is a lttle bit of paradise only 4 hours away! The
relaxing feel of the place is almost unreal. The beach, the lagoon and the
crystal clear waters are stunning. We've been 3 times in the last 5 years
      and
some of the people there treat us almost like family! We've stayed in the
Belcehan Hotel, a small and friendly place. Good quality and ideally
      situated.
Across the road we stayed at the Tanner Hotel, a little more basic than the
others but not too bad. Just around the corner is the Turquoise Hotel, a
little larger than the others, again good quality, nice pool area although on
occasion the music at the pool bar could have been slightly quieter.
You can eat out every night at different restaurants in Olu Deniz or in
Hisaranou, the neighbouring village at the top of the mountain. Or you could
travel the 13 kilometres to Fethiye and find some very good restaurants
      around
the harbour. Prices can be ridiculously low while the food quality is
      generally excellent.
There are no heirs and graces around the whole area. Just a wonderfully laid
back picturesque setting. It's completely safe.
You must visit the markets at Hisaranou (Monday) and Fethiye (Tuesday), and
you must take a local boat trip. See my friend Metin (Big Tours) a couple of
hundred yards up the main road from the beach, Ł5 each for the day including
      lunch!
I could write all day about this place, but I'd better finish by saying that
we know at least another eight couples and families who have been to Olu
      Deniz
and they have all been back. Trust me when I say you will almost feel like
crying when it's time to come home!
It doesn't rain between May and the beginning of October, but beware that
temperatures can reach 130 and 140 degrees in July and August.
We can't wait to go back, we feel very much at home there.
Zakynthos, Crete, Lanzarote etc. are wonderful destinations, but this place
      has the edge for us.

Where do I begin?? Olu Deniz is just the most fantastic resort ever! The
beach is just absolutely gorgeous, the best spot is the part of the beach
      that
meets the lagoon. It only costs about 50p to enter the lagoon area, and 2
sunbeds and an umbrella cost about Ł2.50 for the day. The water is
      absolutely
      gorgeous and crystal clear!

There are a few shops in Olu Deniz, but prices tend to be higher than in
neighbouring Hisaronu, take the dolmus there for 750,000 TL (about 40p)for
      all
your fake designer bargains! Hisaronu has very lively bars in the evening,
but they are a bit too rowdy and there seemed to be quite a lot of fights
there. Olu Deniz is much better to go out in, in my opinion. I read another
review where someone said that everything shuts at 12 - and couldn't believe
it! - basically most of the shops shut at 12 but the bars and discos don't
really get going til then! Try Crusoe's and the Barcelona bar after about 1pm
for a good time, they both go on til at least 4am sometimes til 6.

one of the best things about olu deniz - well, if you're a single girl - it's
the men! they are absolutely gorgeous! my friend and i can't wait to go back
      next year!

a tip i would give is not to bother booking excursions with your rep. they
are overpriced and you can get much better trips through the local "travel
agencies" - the guys that inundate you with brochures as you walk along! we
did a full day boat trip to Butterfly Valley inc lunch for Ł4, it was great!
We also did the 12 islands boat trip inc lunch for Ł5. basically, if you
      like
the sun and love swimming they're great! - if you don't then Olu Deniz is not
really the place for you! Last year i went paragliding off the top of Badabag
mountain, you land on the seafront - it cost Ł65 - which is about the same at
all of the paragliding companies - and it was fantastic! I'd totally
      recommend
it! this year i went parasailing, this was Ł20, and also excellent!

average prices for food were about Ł3 for a main course, wine was 2mil 500 a
glass (about Ł1.10 when we were there) cocktails are usually about 3mil 500
      to
4mil. when we were there the exchange rate was about 2mil TL to Ł1. in the
shops and market, DO haggle. whatever they say to you, if you start to walk
away, they will drop their price.

Just to quickly tell you about the hotel we stayed in, The Turquoise - it was
great! A little basic, but v clean, and with the most fantastic power
      showers!
      - the staff are really friendly and they all remembered us by name from last
year! I hope to go there again next year but Virgin Sun is not operating
      after
this year, so i'll have to find an alternative!

Basically, Olu Deniz is the place for you if you like somewhere very hot with
a beautiful beach, buzzing nightlife (if you want something very lively, go
      to
Hisaronu instead) and the friendliest people in the world! i only came back 2
days ago and i can't wait to go again!
