      I think you are dealing with the oil and gas business.
      They allude to the two stages: the upstream and
      downstream business. The upstream part is about
      exploration and exploitation, the downstream –
      processing, transportation, storage and trading.
      In general, the upstream business means manufacturing,
      the downstream end means marketing and sales.

        By the way. It's a suggestive kind of metaphor, isn't
        it. "Upstream", "downstream"... I wonder where it comes from. And if Polish
        business language ever acquires that kind of poetic quality.
