Gerrard St. was closed to traffic Saturday and yesterday for the two-day
festival and more than 100 restaurants, clothing shops and jewellery stores
were open. Food could be sampled for $1 to $5 and the generous helpings made
it worth the money.

Samosas, pakoras, savoury chicken tikka and vegetarian delights were just the
beginning. Then came dessert: faluda, mango lassi, kulfi (Indian ice cream) on
a stick and the palate cleansing paan — a mix of raw spices wrapped up in an
edible leaf, sometimes topped with fresh coconut.
