Can anybody recommend a gallery site?

06.09.06, 09:09
I just thought I'd ask those of you who sometimes place your photos online if
you can recommend a public gallery service on the net.

I have seen them around but not really taken note of them. But now I would
like to post quite a few images and I don't want to use up space on my
provider.

Ideally it should be a place were viewers can leave feedback, where uploading
is easy, which can be personalised, which is not dear - if there is a
membership at all - and where they keep the photos secure and up for a long
time. It would also help if the site were not too bogged down with ads,
although I understand sites have to pay the rent.

Thanks "from the mountain" for your recommendations.

dave, check photobucket.com/ It is free and meets most of your
criteria. Am not sure about the feedback possibilities, though, for I haven't
      used it much.

There is feedback possibility but it's not free of charge(although not expensive).

Thanks Babiana, I'll take a free account there and see if I like it enough to
pay for it. I see there is quite a community thing going on there, which is
what it's all about on the net.

pbase is wonderful. some popular galleries are simply stunning, for example:

            www.pbase.com/gilazouri/china
            www.pbase.com/maciekda/portfolio
            www.pbase.com/asislen/bella_tuscana&page=all
            www.pbase.com/compuminus/cambridge
some are funny/inspiring, something for everyone
            www.pbase.com/abbarich/coloured_alphabet
            www.pbase.com/charlespfeil/frogs_nov_02
there's a photography forum on GW where you can post individual pics and have
them discussed, but it's in polish

The problem is that these people are so good that one is not encouraged to
display one's meagre work beside them.

I think the size limits on there are a bit offputting, but at some stage I'll
              probably give it a whorl.

              Thanks!

Right here, Maggie, and a bit north of it also. I went into Khabarovskiy Kray
as well as Primorskiy Kray, but it was mainly Primorye, and Vladivostok City
                    for a day.

                    tinyurl.com/rjstk

Incidentally, if you zoom right in on Vladivostok in Google maps, you will see
it is in the bleak midwinter, with frosty wind making moan, but as you zoom out
and look at the region around, it is glorious summer like the Son of York.

The odd effect of a wintery city surrounded byu a country in summer is
reminiscent of the selfish giant's garden in the children's tale.

For anyone wishing to experience the funny think I mentioned in my last post,
but not sure where Vladivostok is, here's a link to somewhere pretty central in
                      it:

Hmmm I though maybe you were somewhere in Kazachstan. I am somewhat familiar
                        with Pawłodar.
Couldnt find a map wchich awould calculate the distance. East of Russia doesn't
seem to be on those net maps.

I have always used that one, Dave. And it's free!(music to MY ears)
Maybe I will also upload some pictures when I have a minute or two.
I think you will like it.

                Dave,

I usually use "Image Shack" for my photos, located at:
                imageshack.us/
Photos can be rated and easily linked to various blogs. The downside is that
viewers cannot leave any feedback or messages, and there is no interaction
                between users.

                Here is an example:

That's pretty good stuff, babiana, but I was thinking more in terms of ones
where anyone can put their photos, no matter how poor they are.

Here are two galleries I did at webshots.com

                      community.webshots.com/user/usenetposts
Before buying a membership there, I am oing to try the other receommended ones
also, especially the one Maggie suggested.

They are pretty good. Congratulation and keep going. Variety is the spice of life.

                        PS.
I've seen your pictures from Minsk already.
I just didn't want to open a new subject.
