Choć jego matka była Żydówką.

When asked that question at the press conference opening his world title rematch against Boris Spassky in 1992, Bobby Fischer answered, ?In the first place, this term anti-Semitism is a nonsense term because my understanding is that the Arabs are also Semites, not only the Jews, so I don?t know what that means. I?m definitely not anti-Arab.?
...
the subject deals with what he actually is. Which is to say, a matrilineal Jew via his mother Regina Wender, who was by many accounts the classic New York chutzpah mama of popular imagination. Yet in one of several recent appearances on Filipino radio, Fischer blew up at a friendly interviewer who wondered innocently, "But aren?t you half-Jewish yourself?" Growled Fischer in reply, "Do you want to come with me to the boy?s room, then we?ll see who is Jewish."
But back in January 1962, in a Harper?s Magazine interview with Ralph Ginzburg, Bobby was asked "You?re Jewish, aren?t you?", and he answered, "Part Jewish. My mother is Jewish." The question was prompted by Bobby opining that "there are too many Jews in chess" who "have taken away the class of the game" because they "don?t seem to dress so nicely, you know."
One telling detail about Bobby?s developing views was that he began to sign his name as "Robert James" eliminating the racially ambiguous ?Fischer.? He then demanded to be excised from a Jewish encyclopedia. But the full extent of Bobby?s anti-Semitism only became clear at the above-mentioned 1992 press conference and in the following years.
