DEAR ALL, THIS IS URGENT
In addition to the call I put out 1/2 an hour ago asking activists to come to
Marda, I am now asking everyone to make phone calls. For those uninformed
about the situation, I begin with background.

Marda is one of the villages that is being impacted on by the Wall around
Ariel. Trees in the village began being cut down on Thursday. The army is now
continuing. The Supreme Court rescinded a temporary stop order for the work
about 10 days ago, which was to have beenin effect until the verdict on June
21 this month about the route of the wall. The Supreme Court stated that
should the verdict be in the favor of the villagers, the government would pay
them for irreversible damage. How do you pay for 100 year old olive trees
that have been uprooted? Will the money bring the trees back to life?
Moreover, the villagers do not want money. They want their land and their
olive trees. The workers began cutting trees at Marda Thursday, when about
500 trees were cut down. It is estimated that 10,000 of the village's trees
will be uprooted for the Wall. The contention that this is for security is a
LIE! The contrary is true. This wall will bring missiles on Israeli heads.
The wall is unjust, is wrong, is cruel, and will not bring security!!!
----------------------------------

Villagers at MARDA were not informed in advance about the tree cutting. When
villagers learned that their trees were being cut, they rushed up the hill to
their olive groves; some internationals joined them; the people running up
the steep slope were shot at by the security guard. No one was injured, but
that's just luck since the security guard was at the top of the slope, the
people hurrying up. Apparently he shot at the ground to scare the villagers
off. Now soldiers are protecting the cutters (on Thursday the laborers were
Romanians, foreign labor), and are also in the village throwing percussion
grenades, whose explosions I heard on the phone when speaking to Hannah who
is high up the slope.

Hannah just now called again.
The soldiers are roughing up the villagers and others with them and
threatening them.

PHONE OR FAX NOW!!!!

And for those of you abroad, please call politicians, media, and anyone else
who can influence in your country.
