OK, I've just found that there is something like cell(ular) phone. However it
      sounds strange to me;-)

        Well, it's used.
Can't tell how often, but I see/hear it sometimes.

In Canada we use it all the time, more often than "mobile" I'd say.

          call me on my cell
          here's my cell number
          call my cell phone

In British English it`s also used quite often

      Yes!
cell phone - it's American English
      mobile phone - British English

Our Polish "telefon komórkowy" must be from American English because cell
      means "komórka"

I know what "cell" means, but I have always thought that it has only biological
        sense;-)

        Thanks for your answers;-)

'Cell' or "cellphone" is a strictly American word. Americans do not use the
word 'mobile' in reference to their phone at all.

Rubbish! 'Cellphone' is used all over the English speaking world, just
as 'mobile phone' is. I've been in Boston for the last six months or so, and
        heard both words being used.

Mobile phone is a "scandinavism" in English and is probably a result of
Ericsson and Nokia being so expansive on the market. In Scandinavia only those
speaking very very good English would say cell phone, while in the US and the
UK almost nobody says mobile phone, but they understand it allright.
