Can Polish teachers teach English abroad?

IP: *.psm.gda.pl / *.psm.gda.pl 30.01.04, 22:34
I'm an English teacher. I'm thinking about going abroad for a year.I'm just
curious if there are any chances to get a job of an English teacher in
Ireland, Italy, Portugal... somewhere in Europe.I know that it may sound a
bit absurd but if you happen to know anything about it please let me know. I
would be very grateful:)

To the best of my knowledge, you are unlikely to get a language teaching job
in any English speaking country. Quite logical, really. Elsewhere, it might be
possible, though not in the main stream education - there are thousands of
British/American/Australian young people filling such vacancies all over
      Europe. Good luck, anyway.

      Danusia,
I teach English in the USA. I teach in High School and in a college, so it
isn't impossible. Try to find something in Dave's ESL Cafe on internet or just
look for ESL jobs there. I know that Korea is often looking for more ESL
teachers, but they might prefer a native speaker.
      Good luck,
      Elzbieta

"I teach in High School and in a collage..."
        How about learning some, too.

Funny, how they prefer native speakers in Korea but, apparently, not in the
US. Who are your students, may I ask?

a few of my friends teach English abroad (Korea, Bhutan, China), mostly
through contacts established before they went out there. I taught English in
Ireland, but these were free classes (for both me and students) as part of a
TEFL course. Some of my friends are required to claim British or American
roots (which they don't have) for their jobs.

Hiya, having answered your querry I think the Polish teachers could teach
English abroad but I see a small problem. It depends where would you like to
teach English. If you wished to teach it in England there may be a problem as
the English are very fussy about the accent.I understand that your command and
level of English are very good but the problem in general is that they may not
want someone to teach their kids who is not their native.I do hope you know
what I mean. But you still can try it, as far as I know they're short of the
teachers but personally(sorry for saying that)I wouldn't be happy if my son was
to be taught by someone who wasn't born in the U.K. and his/hers first language
is not English. If you had any comments on this issue, pls.let me
      know.Regards,Martin

Get a CELTA qualification through International House. They do it in Wrocław,
Kraków and Katowice, I think. It's an internationally recognised teaching
certificate for teaching English to adults and is what native speakers coming
to Poland to teach English should have. It costs about 5,000zł, takes a month
of intensive and pretty stressful work, including a lot of observed lessons,
        but is worth it.

If you study at a universuty they should know about it, and be able to provide
you with some info, if not, try the web :-) One of my friend was teaching
English in Italy employed through this program :-)

Miałam kiedyś koleżankę, która uczyła angielskiego w Londynie na kursach. Kursy były dla imigrantów.

Polish engineers do teach English/ American engineers ( I know of at least
one), so the Polish teachers of English can do the same (of course if they are
            smart enough).

            Good luck

Znam faceta urodzonego i wychowanego w Polsce - czyli rdzenny Polak, native
Polish - który w wieku 25 lat wyemigrował do Kanady. Już od ponad 15 lat jest
              nauczycielem angielskiego w szkole podstawowej.
