restroom vs WC vs toilet

IP: *.neoplus.adsl.tpnet.pl 02.12.02, 08:06
When I for the first time heard the word "restroom" functioning in the USA
as "WC" I thought that it was an amusing description of that what in Britain
is called "toilet" and I made sure whether the guy (guest) didn't
mean "relief room" :DDD I'm curious how Americans hit upon idea calling that
shrine "restroom". Mmm?

That's where American gents go for a respite while their ladies 'powder their
noses' next door. Thomas Crapper is in the meantime turning in his grave.

or saying "Yes" to a French woman next door. ;D

      amazing, the wealth of expressions
      restroom?
does anybody use that word , for real?
megapolite , not as clinically horrible as "lavatory" though

There is no WC in english and we don't say toilet as well.
We say restroom or simply bathroom.

"Restroom" use to have a couch in them. If a "lady" felt faint or ill, she
would "rest" on it. Today they do not have them in restrooms. It's another
word, which has lost it's meaning in time.

Who says there is no toilet in America? When you have to
go you enter graciously the locale to sit graciously on
the toilet, or stand graciously nearby it, only then you
go - why make a mess of the entire anteroom?

"I have discovered that all human evil comes from man's
being unable to sit still in a room", said Pascal.

Great topic! (toilet, I mean, not Pascal)
How about an English slob going to a luv?

          Provided he completes his journey.
The superiority of the room concept is overwhelming.
If pressed to name a development that America contributed
to humanity you wouldn't hesitate, would you?

            Bert,
you missed. Verily!... America, or your country, is great in so many ways, that
I cannot list them here, but to name just a few and off my hat: literature -
            Bellow, Coover, Faulkner, Updike(particularly of Rabbitt saga) and many more...;
music and jazz in part.Duke, Coltrane, Miles... and Art and Science... and
Marlon Brando and ... oh... Sandra Bullock! But not J. Wayne. (Did you know,
they had tried to make him more 'respectable' actor by attempting to cast him
in Hamlet... till the first 5min of the first rehearsal? It went like this: "'
To be Ornottob ee...' Ehh?? Who the fuck wrote that shite?"
            OK?

              Got you, W.!
Just slipped one over on you. Verily, no explanation
              necessary.
