General information about Chair of Glottodidactics and Translation Study
Although the Department of Glottodidactics and Translation Study was given its
present name on 1st October 1997, its beginnings date back to the 60s when the
Institute of Applied Linguistics was separated from the Institute of
Linguistics which belonged to the Philological Faculty. The former was a
strictly scholarly unit established to analyse and prepare glottodidactic
material, and to work on theoretical aspects of language teaching process.
Since 1991 students have been able to specialize in the discipline of "applied
linguistics" within the Department of Glottodidactics whose name was extended
at the beginning of the academic year 1997/98.

The five-year full-time studies are divided into two levels: the first - B.A.,
and the second - M.A.. The curriculum of the studies reflects a division of
applied linguistics into two subdisciplines: glottodidactics understood as a
language teaching process, and translation studies dealing with theories,
methods and techniques of translation. German is a language of instruction;
thus we educate teachers of German for all types of schools , as well as
translators and consecutive interpreters. During the studies the two
professional groups explore various aspects of linguistics, literature,
culture and many other interdisciplinary subjects, the objective being
acquiring knowledge of a language together with communicative skills, as well
as knowledge of specific aspects of intercultural communication to enable
students to become well-qualified mediators and managers in their future
professional career in ethnically mixed working teams of Euroregion.Apart from
German, our students acquire both English /advanced level/ and Russian /basic
level/. As the studies in the Department are of interdisciplinary character,
our students participate in lectures in other university units or academies
and colleges. The following disciplines are included in the scholarly profile
of the Department: German linguistics, contrastive studies of all language
subsystems, pragmatic linguistics research as well as text linguistics,
discourse analysis, oral and written translation, German literature, elements
of German history and culture, German teaching methodology, analysis of
glottodidactic material, alternative methods. There are curently employed 24
staff members: 7 professors, 4 doctors, 11 doctoral candidates, and 5
lecturers. There are also 2 German native speakers.There 160 full-time
students of Applied Linguistics this year.In the following academic year
(1998/99) we have initiated the extramural studies for graduates with their
B.A. degrees. The Department lecture rooms are equipped with the following:
overhead projectors, audio-visual aids, and laboratory at our disposal, where
intensive phonetic courses are held in the early stages of the studies. The
library comprises more than 10 000 scholarly volumes, including coursebooks,
textbooks and magazines in the languages which are the subject of study.

ja mialam na studiach przedmiot Glottodydaktyka
Pani prof ktora go uczyla ( a wczesniej wykladala to samo w USA, na Hawajach)
uzywala Glottodydaktyka po polsku,
po ang zas wylacznie " teaching Eng as a foreign language"
po niemiecku tez jest Glottodidaktik, to juz tak na marginesie
a znaczy to po prostu metodyka nauczania jezyka obcego
