I've personally known the weird couple. The guy is from Spain when lady comes
from Papua New Guinea. They've both been matched together perfectly. They've
        been married for 15 years.

Good idea. For me it didn't work - because of a different
"view of the world" and "ideas for life", in short:
        because of cultural differences.

the guy keeps telling you about programmes that he loved when he was a kid,
which you know nothing about, and to be honest, dont care. He, on the other
hand, has no understanding for what you liked. doesnt understand the jokes
reeeeally, and the wordplay and shortcuts dont apply either.

We are a couple like that..and it's working, very well, the only thing that you
need to remember about is to be open on other people, other cultures, there are
some differnces u'll be able to embrace, some other will never change for
neither one of you.. Not only our nationalities are different, our
denominations are different too.. If you want to be with someone and you love
him or her, why should any of that matter? The hard work starts after all the
butterflies in your stomach stop flying...
            • Gość: english-test.net Of course it can work - what a question? IP: *.dip0.t-ipconnect.de 27.08.03, 09:18
Of course can a bi-national relationship work. And it can work at least as
well as any other relationship. Why shouldn't it? People are more similiar
than they are diferent. What really counts in a relationship between two
people does not depend on where they grew up because any relationship requires
a certain amount of tolerance, flexibility and a willingness to learn no
matter if you speak the same mother tongue or not. Most couple suffer because
they lose interest in each other, they don't experience the same kind of
feelings they did when they met. Some differences in culture can improve the
quality of a relationship. When you fail it's because you speak different
languages but because you stopped to love your partner, you started to love
yourself, you want to change your partner ect.

Interesting, but how about children? Do you have children aggie and how do they fit in it? Do they think they are Polish or do they think they are American? Are they proud or perhaps ashamed of their origin? Is that a problem for them at school etc.?

I ask these questions because I think you missed the most important question about the children of these couples.

So, what do you all think? I can see a lot of advantages and disadvantages.

          on couples.

I am very profoundly of the opinion that women are attracted by cash
and 'status', which very often means just the men being a foreigner
(Westerner). I don't mean they're getting BOUGHT; simply, when they feel cash
or Western origin, they're naturally inclined to be favourably disposed to such
          a man...
Sorry, no offence taken I hope, but this is a very well substantiated
          observation.

Hey, can you actually explain what being a foreign westerner has to do with
being wealthy, and with, as you call it, 'position'? Man, you live in a la la
land, unless you're a bit thick, lets say a bit simple. None of any reasonably
smart westerners would produce such a piece. and again, the debate here is on
differences in characters of mixed couples, not necessarly with western men,
but asian, african ( women included)and so on. is there something behind
mixing with these nationalities we dont know but you do?
                • Gość: Yorick Re: my opinion IP: *.torun.dialup.inetia.pl 28.08.03, 16:24
Heh, no reason to get that excited.
After all, I didn't say YOU got married to a foreigner for cash, did I. I know
lots o women married to foreigners and don't even thi9nk of accusing them of
doing it for any other reason than real love.
But then, there's another kind of women, the kind that makes 'sexual tourists'
to Poland very successful. It's incredible how much being a foreigner (from the
West, preferably a NS of English) upgrades your chances... this is sth I've
                  grown very bitter about.
Luckily, this law is universal - for Ukrainians, Poland is West... Of course
the proportions are different, but still it kinda works...

I thought you would discuss mixed-nationality couples, or
multinationaliyt couples, you mean international couples
mixed nationality would be someone who is for example a
child of international couple, like a polish-bulgarian
      person.

It usually works better on a neutral territory where both of the partners are
foreign, so none of them is at an advantage as to the family, friends,
        language etc.
On the other hand I observe many Polish couples arriving in UK and then
splitting up pretty soon, usually in the first year as the variety of what's on
offer is often too much of a temptation for the female. Yes! Contrary to the
popular belief hers is usually the weaker loyalty.
I've got a kid from a mixed marriage which did not work out and am
currently in a relationship where each of us comes from a different ethnic
background and we're a family with 3 different surnames, which is nothing
extraordinary here BUT I could not dream of the three of us settling down
        in Poland in this set-up!
The mere fact that we are discussing this topic on a Polish forum says
        something, doesn't it?
        • yoric Cheers, mate! 08.09.03, 23:19
          Heh,

'variety of what's on offer' - a very nice, very polite way of saying what I
said before here in this topic. Many rich foreigners from the west... too
much 'of what's on offer' for those poor little girls... Am I right?

neither was I (wink, wink). OK, maybe a bit :). But seriously, it's not even
that much about cash, just 'being from a better country'. You want to say
that 'being from a better country' does not work on women???

              > You want me to be crude?

              did you say 'rude'?

              > Sounds like you're a bit frustrated, poor little boy.

A bit. Still, as I before, for the Ukrainians I am a man from the West... Not
as good as a Frenchman, or smn from the UK, of course, but still sth more than
              a native of their country...

It does not matter what nationality you are. As a romantic I feel that it does
not matter if you really love somebody. It means really -mystery of love. It is
better to ask why we love someone or not. It is rather destiny or chemistry. On
the other hand there is no one answer for a good couple. The most important
      thing is love.
