usenetposts Re: Any other active forums about Poland 30.12.05, 15:44 I think that this is currently the most active one. There is also the one that advertises here with a link ad called polishforums.com or something, but it needs a lot of work doing on it, as the template is not aesthetically pleasing and the choice of avatars is whack. You are welcome to start any Polish related threads also on my phpBB, if you prefer that format to the GW forum format. The link to that is www.usenetposts.com/forum. This incorporates full BB language, is a version 2.17 php BB forum with a uniquely handcrafted colour scheme (by little me, hee hee)and a generous avatar allowance, also with the offer to have a specially designed avatar. I can safely say that this is the most active forum for Foreigners either living in Poland or thinking of going there, including Poles who have become foreigners, but are still thinking of a Return to Zęda, anywhere on gazeta.pl, and from my perusings of alexa.com, I believe I can safely say that gazeta.pl has the main set of forums from any service or portal under the .pl ccTLD. And you are most welcome here. Odpowiedz Link

magbak Re: Any other active forums about Poland 05.01.06, 01:17 The forum at polandpoland.com is fun! It's easy to use and doesn't require log-ins. Odpowiedz Link

kylie1 Re: Any other active forums about Poland 09.01.06, 23:30 On second thought, thanks but no thanks. I was "graciously" kicked out for something I genuinely considered was nothing more than joking (my password never arrived after three requests, no explanation followed). You can have it guys! I thought I was pretty bad at running fora, but when I look at some of the stuff there is out there, I don't feel so bad. Odpowiedz Link
kylie1 Re: Any other active forums about Poland 10.01.06, 20:23 Have nothing to feel bad about Dave. This is how it works over there. A guy shows up, puts down Polish women in an obnoxious way and is praised for speaking up. He is being called a "friend" by some and is invited to participate even more. Ironically, his "unmoderated" posts have disappeared for good. And here is the gag line: let's have a democratic referendum and decide who should stay and who should get the boot. Mind you, I have already been excluded from speaking up because a "higher power" decided I was nothing but trash. So much for participating in a democratic forum. I like your approach, Dave. It's honest and it's fair play. I am not a big fan of ass kissing to score popularity votes. Keep it up, Dave. Kylie I also wondered why people have to tell their age to obtain a password. The only places I have to disclose my age is hospital forms and income taxes. This is a public forum, not a tax audit. Hmm.... Another new "democratic" idea, I suppose. Odpowiedz Link

It makes it easier for them to decide which spammers to sell your details to. So you should lie to them as a matter of principle, the same as when any other market-researchers hassle you for personal information. Odpowiedz Link
usenetposts Re: Any other active forums about Poland 16.01.06, 10:41 Since there does seem to be a need for another Poland based forum in English other than those in the GW format, I have dedicated a category in my website's bulletin board to Polish issues in English (there's also a different section on there if anyone wishes to discuss anything in Polish, then by all means). The link is www.usenetposts.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=8 I only give this as an additional option to the GW for those who are more used to the BB language. It's all about what one is used to. I see that some people however look for other forums on the net, and so I thought I'd just as well provide one like that rather than let people go off to some in my view not brilliant fora. Of the three that have been discussed here, only one is really worth attending, in my opinion, and that is jagahost.proboards79.com/index.cgi. The one at www.polishforums.com/ I simply didn't like because of the ugly interface and the clumsy handling, and lack of functionalities. Obviously I'm happy for them to advertise here whenever they feel like it. They must have paid 90-120 PLN for the advertising they did on this forum, which pays back a bit to GW for our use of space. But it's not like me to withhold criticism just for that. The choice of avatars on there is awful, and you cannot upload your own avatar. The polandpoland.com/ forum has been roundly criticised already by Kylie, although it does have an existing clientele, whereas the polishforums one is fledgling. The seem to be no avatars at all, and stats are sadly lacking. The advantage of the service I offer there is: - unlike GW, what you write there is likely to show up on search engines. I have tried googling for things I've written on here and on there, and this place appears to be search engine blocked. What that means is, that a bunch more people might read your stuff while it is still current, but by the time a year is out, more people are likely to have read what you put on a traditional BB, if you are using vocab which is not generic, and which will come up when someone who has the same interests as you googles with a similar combination of words that you used. The other advantages is the generous avatar allowance, the ability to create opinion polls with up to 20 options, to participate without registering, a choice of two interfaces (a more colourful one I designed or the usual phpBB default interface called "subsilver") I am using phpBB 2.17, supporting full BB language, with the ability even to link to images and hrefs and use colour, size, italic and bold. The disadvantage is that right now the Polish section only has my sticky. For those who are happy with the GW format, you are very welcome here, and the only way is up for this forum. For those looking for a BB style forum, I hope this initiative will be of some help. Odpowiedz Link

I tested it and you can upload your own avatar. I don't think they advertise here (did they advertise on Gazeta?). Odpowiedz Link
tlum23 Re: Any other active forums about Poland 21.09.06, 07:55 Also, you have nice forums there www.usenetposts.com/forum/ (but when you compare the looks - colors with www.polishforums I think it's easier to read text on the latter one). Odpowiedz Link

The problem is that that one got paralysed by spambots, and so I had to make it impossible to register to post without going through me. I get about 20 requests a day from dumb robots which are automatically chucked out, so if a real person did what to join in that pretty dead forum now, the thing to do would be to let me know here and I'll look out and make sure not to squelch that registration. usenetposts Re: Any other active forums about Poland 09.01.06, 16:30 Thank you very much. I try to run it as a democracy, but it is, as it were, my "baby". I'm a bit like a gardener actually, I just like to plant things and feed and water and then watch them grow. Quite a lot of what I do on the net never gets off the ground, so this is a welcome exception. Odpowiedz Link
