Poczta Polska

Just read in gazeta.pl that PP is going to limit the sale of stamps in their
post offices because they are losing money on that smile
It is like a pub limiting the sale of beer...

Don't get me started on the post office.

They seriously deserve to be privatised.

Just last week, they sent back to America a package I had received because I
hadn't come and got it fast enough for their liking. The company had paid to
have it delivered to my home, but they said it was "ordinary" rate, and
that "ordinary" for parcels doesn';t mean home delivery. I was at pains to
point out to them that in all countries it does. They said "well we don't". So
I said why did they leave me a piece of paper saying that they hadn't found any
opne at home, then, which I knew to be a lie?

There was no getting through to them. They are total shit.

If Westerplatte happened today, they would not defend it, they would simply say
      it wasn't their job.

I get that all the time.

But they know me at my poczta now and the guy who delivers our packages, even
brings us the ones we should pick up ourselves.

You know, in this country sometimes all it takes is just getting to know those
people who provide a service, being less anonymous..
I don't mean bribes but I've found that they are much more cooperative if you
        don't treat them like cattle.

They get paid to perform a service. If I treated my clients that way, I
wouldn't deserve to be in business.

I dare say the problem is that you don't have a proper head of state. In the UK
a posted letter becomes part of "Her Majesty's mails" and the Queen's head is
on the stamp. Is it treated as a massive breach of honour not to deliver a
          letter.

Here nobody gives a damn, and if Kaczynski's face were on the stamps, nobody
          would give a damn either.

Well, in this case, as most with most state owned companies 'it's not about the
            Benjamins'.
To be honest they earn sweet FA in comparison with what we pay for the
service...there was a good programme on UWAGA TVN a few omnths ago, on how
posties are expolited and have to delover even tons and tons of 'ulotki' and
they don\t get paid for over time....

That is b....x as far as I know. I dont know one person, who actually thinks
about that when licking a stamp and thinking it may dishonour them or the Queen
if it doesn't get to its destination is just soooooooooo imperialistic.
No offence Davey, nothing wrong with being old fashionedsmile I like the Royals
but I can't say my life or many other peoples, would fall to bits without them.

From what I know from many Brits the Queen is a good gimmick for the tourists.

That's called bearaucracy. It is also about roots. This nation has just TOO
            many idolssmile

Like I said in my case, I got to know the people who a responsible for my mail.
And things have become much easier since. I do tend to get the odd 'awizo' and
they wont deliver that, if it is from the Urzędnicy....anything else they sort
            it out for me.
            • usenetposts Re: Poczta Polska 26.05.06, 23:03
They get cash in hand to do the "ulotki", which is why they cannot be bothered
to do their real jobs any more.

Like they would tell that fact to TVN. I can't remember seeing one single
accurate piece of investigative reporting by that channel, although I'm sure
that they have done some some times, if only by chance.
    • firemouse Re: Poczta Polska 25.05.06, 13:31
      Hey, this makes sense.

Why pay for printing post stamps and distributing them, if you can simply stamp
the letter at post office with ink stamp showing the fee.

They make it I think in Ireland.

      It is certainly cheaper.
      • bluteau Re: Poczta Polska 25.05.06, 13:33
Yes, but then you'd HAVE to go to the post office in person in order to mail a
letter. Might save PP some money, but it's cost the customers lots of time.
        • marcus_anglikiem Re: Poczta Polska 25.05.06, 20:21
why not do what they do in the uk. If the cost of printing stamps increases
above their face value then - increase the price. simple, really, no?

So I think you'd have to go there anyway to buy the stamps.
          • bluteau Re: Poczta Polska 25.05.06, 23:46
Yeah, but I go there like once a quarter and buy a mess of stamps. When I want
to mail something I just dump it into the post box on my street. Saves me a lot
            of time.
            • ja_karola Re: Poczta Polska 26.05.06, 05:11
Post office employees are a plague no matter what country! I won't go into
details about the "stress-related" mass murder in America that originated
the "don't pull a mailman on me" saying across N.A., but from personal
experience in Montreal, the postman is not exactly the most customer-friendly
              person.

They ring the door bell once, and before you even have the time to run to it,
they're off in their fancy Post Office vans. That's right! No bicycle riding
here... they have cars in which they speed off. You then have a specified
number of days to collect your package. My grandmother's parcel got lost once
on the territory of Canada, but at least they did pay her back. Not to mention
one scandalous employee who was dismissed last year after being caught
withholding tons of mail from the recipients. This sick man had thousands of
letters stashed up in his home when finally caught and prosecuted.

The post office sucks everywhere, but I hate to generalize and must admit that
the people at the post office that's closest to my work are the nicest people
around and very competent. They take the time to calculate the cheapest options
available to you with a long line up behind you. I also remember the
mail "lady" in Poland who was amazing! She knew everyone. I guess it all comes
down to the person, so Maggie's right....once you get to know them a litte,
things are bound to get better. We just don't take the time to even say hi
anymore....and any governmental institution is prone to attract rotten apples..
              and to be stereotyped.
It's not a non-profit org. either, so if ran as a profitable business, it would
              thrive.

After reading that article, I was under the impression that PP limits selling
post stamps outside their offices. This is where they loose money, since they
probably have to give a small percentage to retailers, like Kiosk’s owners etc.
You can get as many stamps as you wish at any post office in Poland. Unless
they run out of them wink

Maybe you are right. Welcome to this forum by the way, as I don't remember
reading your name before. Do stick around.
        • gfunkallstars Re: Poczta Polska - explanations 02.06.06, 00:11
When you get parcels from abroad which have been opened by PP there is usually a
slip of paper explaining why it was opened. I had one which said that when the
parcel left the UK it weighed 0.5 kg and when it arrived in Poland it weighed
0.45kg so they opened it to look for the missing weight.

I don't think they found it.
          • firemouse Re: Poczta Polska - explanations 02.06.06, 10:04
They opened once a documents sent to me. Maybe they were looking for something
nice, because the parcel weighted 15 kilos and had size of average TV set.

But sadly for them, there were only papers inside!

Hi guys, I have been reading occasionally some of your posts. It is quite fun
and had to show it to my husband who is English.
Well about the stamps I remember years ago there were this stmps called A and
      B. That time I hated them especially the A one which had this silly snail
printed on (ask around every one knows the snail!). Now I suppose it could
solve the problem, you print lots of those and simply ask different price when
costs increase. And you avoid the problem of designing new ones and printing
      new ones.
But still I do not leave in Poland now and have troubles every year around
February when they change prices for stamps here. And I am always left with
some old ones and of course you cannot get anything like extra stamp with
additional few cents to stick on and be sure you paid enoug for postage.
      cheers, silverlode
      • marcus_anglikiem Re: Poczta Polska 01.06.06, 22:07
they should do what they do in uk and print 1st or 2nd, so if the price changes
        it makes no difference...
