This is what marrying a Muslim can do

A salutory tale. It is of course possible that Molly really does want to stay
in Pakistan, not just out of Stockholm Syndrome, but then she does have the
choice once she reaches the age of 16, and gets her passport. The only
problem is that by that age in that country she is likely to be considered
too old to get a choice husband.

None of us know what Molly really thinks - perhaps she's happier living in sort-
of luxury with her father in a vibrant warm city than being stuck on a Scottish
      island with her mother.
I'm glad my kids don't have to choose between their parents and Warsaw/London.

I'm not sure even Molly knows what she thinks. She may well prefer being with
daddy, but there is sucha thing as stockholm syndrome, where a person starts to
        identify with their captor.

Are you into psychology, Dave? I’m surprised.

Sure I like reading about psychology, but I can't claim to be very well-versed
            in it.

"Stockholm syndrome (noun): the condition of wanting to live with your father
and siblings in a huge posh house in a leafy, sunny suburb rather than on a
small windy island in the middle of the Atlantic with an alcoholic mother and
her boyfriend who shouts at you."

I think the pressure from Molly's Dad and relatives is too high for her to
think rationally. Of course, anyone could say she is free to go but on the
other hand she developes a strong will to please her family. And to please in
this matter is to put the smile on your face every time you do things against
            yourself.

            But it was Scotland, though!

Hm, i'm pretty sure that, if Molly's father lived in Marseille, Tokio or
Palermo, none of you would say she suffered from Stokholm Syndrome...

Besides, it clearly says in the article, that it wasn't the first time she went
to visit er father and siblings in Pakistan. Now she was maybe even more eager
to get away due to her mother's recent pregnancy (feeling left out perhaps?).

Regards and hope you enjoy living in our insane country. big_grin

Yeah, I still enjoy it mate. Even though it's more insane than ever.
