Hello, I'm Bruce from the UK and I've been teaching English in Poland since
1994.

I've created this topic in order to give those interested the chance to improve
their written English skills and vocabulary. I will be regularly putting
forward events happening in the news, both in Poland and abroad, for

What is your view on the following? - taken from Newsweek POLSKA last week

Cover Story - the Polish economy has moved - in April consumer optimism in
Poland increased by seven points. Do you feel happy about spending more money?
Do you think Leszek Miller and his team will take this opportunity to pull
Poland out of recession - i.e 1. reform public finances 2. decrease the cost of
labour and 3. unblock privatisation ?

Point #2 seems very interesting to me...
"Decreasing the costs of labor"
How exactly would they like to achieve that over there??
I just read an article about small polish constuction companies.
Their current labor rate various between 10-12 zlotys per hour/worker.
At the same time, cost estimates require this rate to be about 30% higher to
meet safety and quality requrements....
I guess that "decreasing the cost of labor" means lower taxes for employers.
Is cutting these taxes possible with "money thirsty" polish government?!

This is very nice. Don't get distracted by paranoid people who will deny any
positive development in Poland. How do you see this from your own experience?
