The ID card is the sole piece of physical evidence on which rests
the charge of murder against Demjanjuk. There are many reason to
suspect it is a fake, including the fact that the SS symbol was
drawn in by hand rather than with a stamp.
But the issue here is chain of custody. Nobody knows where the card
originally came from. There is no chain of custody back to a point
where it is actually linked to Demjanjuk.
Israeli and Polish archaeologists have been over the site of the
Sobibor camp, and as was the case with the ground penetrating radar
at Treblinka, no evidence of claimed mass graves can be found.
In other words, in their haste to "Get" Demjanjuk for the OSI, the
German court is trying to prosecute a murder case where there are no
bodies, no demonstrated means of death, no chain of custody for the
one piece of physical evidence that supposedly links Demjanjuk
(himself a prisoner) to the crimes of his captors, who even more
absurdly were all granted unconditional pardons by Germany decades
ago!
Demjanjuk will probably be found guilty because Israel needs him to
be found guilty or the whole orthodox facade of the history of WW2
will start to crumble, and with it, Israel's justification for
stealing Palestine from the Palestinians.
