There is a number of parallels between Cain and the Jews. The envious murder
by Cain was all the more grievous because it was of his own brother; even so,
the Jews killed their own, even their God who had done so much for them, and
their rightful king: "He came unto His own, but His own received Him not."
(Saint John 1:11) The Jews were jealous that He is the Christ: as in the
parable of the vineyard where they said: "come, let us kill him, and let us
seize on his inheritance." (Saint Matthew 21:38). They wanted what He had,
and were jealous. And what did He have? He had the dignity of being the
Christ, of offering atonement for the sins of the world. In effect, they were
jealous of His Sacrifice, like Cain was jealous of Abel's sacrifice; and out
of this jealousy they killed, "as did Cain": "For he knew that for envy they
had delivered him." (Saint Matthew 27:18)
And like Cain is the figure of the Jews in their murderous crime and their
guilt, he is also the figure of the Jews in their punishment.
The Jews are cursed with the Cainite curse of permanently being subjugated
outcasts.
They are cursed to be outcasts for their deicide.
Hence, we have established that the Jews are essentially cursed for their
guilt with the curse of Cain; we shall now elaborate upon that condition.
Cain was to be an outcast for his murder, "driven out", "a fugitive and a
vagabond":
"And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to
receive thy brother's blood from thy hand. When thou tillest the ground, it
shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond
shalt thou be on the earth. And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is
greater than I can bear. Behold thou hast driven me out this day from the
face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a
fugitive and a vagabond in the earth." (Genesis 4:11-4)
