At least 15 people were killed and 40 people injured Tuesday night in an
explosion at a snooker hall on Sakharov Street in Rishon Letzion, in the town's
new industrial zone.

"At least 15 people have been killed," Amir Sokhanovsky, deputy commander of
the Shfela region police, confirmed.

Initial reports stated that the explosion occurred at around 11:00 P.M., and
emergency service were at the scene minutes later. The injured were evacuated
to the Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer, Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, and
Holon's Wolfson Hospital.

Magen David Adom reported that there were dozens of injuries in the blast,
which occurred on the fourth floor of the building, causing part of the
structure to collapse. Reports state that several people are still trapped in
the rubble of the collapsed structure. The other floors of the building were
apparently empty at the time of the blast.

It was not initially clear whether the explosion was caused by a terrorist's
bomb or some other source, but police later confirmed that the explosion was
caused by a suicide bomber.

An eyewitness who gave his first name as Oren told Israel Radio that he was
near the scene at the time of the explosion. "I just ran away from there. I
don't know if it's a terror attack," he said. Another eyewitness said that said
she was on her way home when she heard "a huge explosion."

"I turned the corner and I saw the whole building go up before my eyes," she
said

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's advisers have been informed of the incident, and
updated him during his meeting with U.S. President Bush.
