USA: Demonstracja antywojenna pod Rockefeller Center

Policja aresztowała dzisiaj ponad 140 spośród 400 uczestników dwugodzinnej
demonstracji antywojennej pod nowojorskim Centrum Rockefellera. Protestujący
zablokowali ruch na jednym z odcinków V Alei.

Uczestnicy wznosili okrzyki przeciwko "nielegalnej wojnie z Irakiem" i
skandowali: "Nie wojnie, nie ropie naftowej, nie zyskom."

W trakcie protestu dochodziło do przepychanek z policją, która starała się
odblokować jezdnię w pobliżu skrzyżowania Piątej Alei z 49. ulicą.
Demonstrantom udało się zablokować w tym miejscu ruch samochodowy: niektórzy
kładli się na jezdni, skąd policjanci ściągali ich siłą i przenosili do
samochodów policyjnych.

Hi all,

I just received this from a friend this morning about the "die in."

A brief report on this morning's activity, for those who couldn't go
and
those who did. I'm sure I missed a lot of what happened, and would love
to
be corrected about any or all of the below. Also keep in mind in
responding that the emails we're sending to each other are unencrypted
and
*will* be read by law enforcement and used against us (or particularly
Ann) if at all possible, now and in the future. This sounds a little
paranoid, I know, but it's true.

We left the Carroll Gardens house at 6:45 in the morning, bright and
warm
and early. Our group consisted of Ann, Temima, Sarra, Ari, Rachel S.,
Dave, Elana, and myself. We took the F up to Rockafella center and got
their quite early (before 7:30?), whereas the protest was supposed to
start at 8am. So we broke up into smaller groups and essentially
wandered
around the postmodern hell that is midtown for the next half hour.
Around
8am we started to see lots of other groups of protestors (some did
better
than others at camouflaging themselves; it was only important for the
CD
folks anyhow) and flowed with them from 7th avenue down to 49th(?) st
and
5th Avenue. The protest took part on the sidewalks of 5th avenue, in
front
of this odd Kenneth Cole store with Art Deco-rations celebrating both
"L'etat c'est moi" and "Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite". Pure spectacle.

There weren't a lot of people compared to most of the protests we
attend
these days, but for 8am on a thursday morning, I'd say it was pretty
good.
The sidewalk was full on one side of the street and mostly empty on the
other. Maybe between 500-1000 people. An incredible number of media as
well, and a reasonable amount of onlookers, some of whom were pro-war
hecklers.

After fifteen minutes or so of chanting (including a failed attempt at
a
cross-avenue Call and Response session), we heard the air horns. People
immediately laid down in the intersection, stopping traffic. There
wasn't
much honking, as I recall. By the time I had walked the twenty-five
feet
to the corner of the intersection, about thirty people had hit the
ground.
Nothing near the 500 organizers were planning/hoping for last night. I
think part of the confusion was that many people at the planning
meeting
thought it was planning for both the legal demo (which most of us took
part in) but it was really more focused on the CD action (what Ann
did),
so all these people showed up, filling a big beautiful Methodist
church,
but most of them had little intention of getting arrested.

Police, including a large number of undercover cops who chose that
moment
to reveal their cophood, immediately began dragging people out of the
intersection. It was very well executed on their part

to nie kropla, rano zebrac 400 osob to jest cos, zwlaszca prze kamerami NBC. W
zeszla sobote mielismy 500 000 . w przyszla sobote bedzie wiecej i pogoda
bedzie coraz leprza.

Zwyrodniala chalastra wyrostkow. Wszystkich zamknac na 10 dni do pierdla za
wstrzymanie ruchu albo dac nam po nich jechac.
Z drugiej strony pozwolic im to robic nadal, niech sie klada na jezdni i tylko
patrzec jak wszyscy obroca sie przeciwko nim.
Zreszta okrzykow i pogrozek nie brakowalo dzisiaj.

Te 500 tysiecy w sobote to chyba bylo w bajkach LaFontaine'a.
