how polite is that?

17.04.06, 17:01
Greetings,

"Do you want me to do_whatever" - how polite is this expression? May I use it
to ask my superior/collegue to do him a favor? "Hi Tom, do you want me to
setup the team meeting at 11". How else may I ask (besides "can I do...",
"shall I...)?

Thanks,

I wouldn't say that it's impolite, however, it is more direct and less formal.
I more formal form is: "Would you like me to...?"

Lub "would you like me to...?" (you'd give HIM a chance to be polite towards
you :-), as "I would like you to..." sounds much nicer than "I want you to..."

When Shakespeare wanted to know if his boss wanted to be compared to a Summer's
day, he didn't write "Dost thou want me to compare thee to a summer's day?"
or "wouldst thou like me to compare thee to a summer's day?" he wrote "shall I
compare thee to a summer's day?"
