"And the experience worth sharing: Last Saturday my wife and I went
out to concert with a Belgian couple (wife was Greek) and their 12
year son. After the -great - concert we went for some Loeffe. Awesome
bar. No TV sets hanging on the walls. I know that people here in
Belgium speak more than one languages so when I casually asked the
husband how many languages he speaks and he said four I wasn't that
impressed (French, Flemish, English, German. Flemish was the mother
tongue, fluent in other three). Hmmm, interesting but not unusual.
His wife additionally spoke Italian (fluently) and Greek. Good for
her! And the little boy? He was too busy playing with his game so I
had to repeat the question. Oh, he does know. Well, lets count:
Greek, English, Flemish, German, French. "Thats it?" I teased him.
"You only speak five languages?". "Yeah he said", "Ancient Greek and
Latin don't count because they are not spoken anymore!". The kid (12
year old) could read Isocrates from the original! I know ancient
Greek so I checked him out, this kid was better than me! "Oh said his
mother" , "everyone is like him in his class"! And we are talking
about a PUBLIC school!
Am I right to be so happy living in Belgium?
Plus they have the best beer in the world!"
No i co, malkontenci? Nawet ze slonecznej Grecji mozna przeniesc sie do Belgii
