"Plagiarism: It is vital in all written work to avoid plagiarism. This is defined in the undergraduate calendar as
follows:
...to use and pass off as one's idea or product work of another without expressly giving credit to another.2
Plagiarism is committed if you:
1.directly copy one or more sentences from the work of another without acknowledgment;
2.closely paraphrase the equivalent of a short paragraph or more without acknowledgment;
3. borrow, without acknowledgment, any ideas in clear and recognizable form in such a way as to represent them
as your own thought.3
Students should note that there is generally no need to plagiarize. In fact, the power of a submission is almost
always enhanced by quoting and/or referencing from published work. It shows that the subject has been
researched. To avoid plagiarism you should:
 use quotation marks for direct quotes and a reference number acknowledging the source with a
footnote or endnote.
 identify the paraphrased work of others with a reference number that refers to the original work."
