Personal crisis

22.05.06, 15:07
Dear Deidre,
I have a dilemma - either my bathroom scales are lying or I now weigh 71
kilos. What should I do, now I've crossed the highly-significant seven-O?
Yours, with a tum.

      Dear Varsovian,

Either get new scales or recalibrate the ones you've got. With a hammer, for
example, although I deduce from the presence of scales in your home that you're
married and would therefore be shouted at for doing this.
You can avoid beer and cakes, or you can avoid scales.

My wife baked a scrummy cake yesterday.
My bro-in-law opened the tinnies afterwards.
        Are you side-kick?

I am merely an expert on the effects of beer and cakes on the male body, and
since you're in Poland it's obviously not a chips thing.

Either you're pretty short or much too sensitive about your weight smile I
currently don't know any adult men who weigh less (or even) 70 kilos. My
husband, who's 183 cm tall weighed about 70 kg (maybe even a bit less) when I
met him at the age of 19. But then I decided to keep him and feed him properly wink

And how much does he weigh now? smile

i know one - i weigh 68kg and am 1m82. though that's natural slimness and not
              too bulky a frame.

                >i weigh 68kg and am 1m82

All I need is to grow another 12 cm and I'd have the same "natural slimness" wink
Yeah, that's the ticket! Why struggle to lose weight when you can make yourself
                taller - pilates anyone?
                • ja_karola Re: Calibration 25.05.06, 04:21
Go ahead, laugh, but pilates is really amazing. Not that I stuck to the
program for more than 6 months, but when I did, I was in the best shape ever!

I was in Copenhagen a few weeks ago for a job interview. It was my second one
and much to my utter shock, I was asked to undergo a full physical (and it's
not like they tested for drugs either). When the MD told me that I had the
perfect weight, I had to call my mom and express my happiness to which she
replied "How old was he?"; "-in his seventies..."; "there you go... he'S old
                  school....you must lose weight".
On a related note, Oprah Winfrey just signed more than a $12 million record
book deal for nothing other than tales of dieting.....and she's not even slim!

I think your mom and mine share something in common...Over the last 18 months or
so I've lost some noticeable weight. I made the mistake of telling my mother
about it. I sent them some family pictures to my parents not too long ago. She
called to tell me they'd arrived, and the first thing she said after "Hello, how
are you?" was "I thought you said you'd lost some weight?!". Ah, God bless her...

As for all these methods of checking whether you have the proper weight, most of
them are rubbish. According to some I also have the proper weight for my height,
while others claim I'm practically obese and should seek medical attention.

Although I don't have a scale at home, I think my weight hovers at around 70
kilos as well. I'm wouldn't say I'm very tall, but husky. It's a respectable
weight. Riding a mountain bike is an excellent activity. It really gets the
metabolism pumping at full speed and it's good on the knees. How are the biking
trails in Warsaw? Kampinos park isn't that far either, right?

Biking's excellent for everything except your sex life - sort of restricts the
blood supply (so I've heard - but fortunately I keep on getting flats ...)

The biking's great from just outside my doorstep - There's forest and field
virtually from Komorow to Podkowa Lesna

Impossible, how do you account for so many Chinese? They bike everywhere. smile

Your area sounds nice Varsovian. The mostly flat terrain around Warsaw must be
great for relaxing biking. It was always known to be a 'green' city, with many
          parks and wide boulevards.
          • varsovian Re: Personal crisis 25.05.06, 11:01
            Outside of Warsaw yes.
The kids never complain - no hills at all. My favourite ride is to Kanie - a
mere 6km round trip, with a great country pub/riding school halfway ("Patataj").
      • esk16 Re: Personal crisis 25.05.06, 11:54
Lately I realized what a greate pleasure gives you riding a mountine bike smile I
live near Warsaw and although I don't know how the biking trails look in
Warsaw, I do know that the greatest thing is to ride through the forest smile And
as I started doing some physical activity there's nothing to do, but wait for
results (I hope taht I'll loose some weight wink).
