Lepper was a laugh this morning

11.09.06, 09:57
I don't normally listen to the radio on the way to work, but today is the day
I have my car serviced, as so I came to the ofice from the service place by
taxi.

I have to admit I laughed when I heard Lepper ranting on about how either he
was in charge of agriculture in this country or there would be early
elections. I wonder if Giertych will make the same rant about edumacation?

Apparently Kaczynski had tried to sneak in a new civil service role between
himself and Andy!

For me he's a laughing stock at every public appearance and not just the one
      from this morning.

You are looking at it the wrong way. You have to remember who he is addressing
and how effective he is at it.

          True.
If Poles don't shift their backsides to go and vote, we're looking at the next
          president...

            BBC News
            Polish governing coalition ends
            Polish PM Jaroslaw Kaczynski
Mr Kaczynski hinted at the prospect of early elections
Poland's Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski has sacked his left-wing deputy,
bringing an end to the four-month-old governing coalition.

The move - which could lead to early elections - comes in the middle of a row
            over next year's budget.

Andrzej Lepper had repeatedly criticised Mr Kaczynski's Law and Justice party
            over the budget.

He also criticised the Polish decision to send an additional 1,000 troops to the
            Nato mission in Afghanistan.

Mr Kaczynski said he would try to assemble a new parliamentary majority with
breakaway members of Mr Lepper's party and another small rural based group
            within the next few days.

If that fails, he said, early elections, probably to be held in November, would
            be the only solution.

But fresh elections are unlikely to solve Poland's political crisis, says the
            BBC's Adam Easton in Warsaw.

According to surveys, none of the major parties seems capable of winning a
            majority, our correspondent says.

I got a good laugh out of Lepper this evening waiving around this huge 'weksel
in blanco' on the news and saying his was gonna take his ex-party colleagues
              for 550,000 PLN a time.

Heh heh heh. You gotta love that guy.

                QUOTE OF THE DAY

Mussolini was a pussycat compared to Lepper.
                Jan Bestry, Self-Defence (Samoobrona) defector

Samoobrona Makes Use of Its Secret Weapon
In order to prevent Self-Defence (Samoobrona) from falling apart, the party has
decided to start redeeming promissory notes signed by its candidates before
parliamentary elections. The financial threat may prove to be a problem for Law
and Justice (PiS), who want to attract potential Samoobrona defectors.(Polish
                News Bulletin)

I think the quote of the day says it all about this "charismatic politician".

Lepper’s promissory notes were signed in blanco by Samoobrona party members.
Demand promissory notes do not carry specific maturity dates. In the case of
Samoobrona the maturity date is the day of defection from the party. The
obligation – repayment of 550 000 zlotys for the use of Samoobrona’s logo during
the election campaign by the defectorssmile

                Vive la democracie!!!

Unbelievable! 32% in opinion polls say yes.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to Present Medal
      to Andrzej Lepper

The Albert Schweitzer Medal, given by AWI to a person who has made a significant
contribution to the protection of animals, will be presented this year (2001) on
June 11th to Andrzej Lepper. The charismatic President of Samoobrona
(“self-defense” in Polish), a major Polish farmers’ union, has led the so-far
successful campaign to keep American industrial hog factories out of his
country. “Let us not allow Poland to be invaded by this cancer, which we already
experienced during the communist times,” he said.

This significant honor, inaugurated in 1953, has been awarded to deserving
individuals ranging from those of modest position who have significantly
bettered the welfare of animals on a hands-on basis to towering public figures
who have engendered important changes that have improved the lot of hundreds of
      thousands of animals.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., the President of Water Keeper Alliance, is scheduled to
make the presentation in the Mansfield Room of the US Capitol. A reception will
follow. Invitations will be sent out later this spring; we hope you will be able
to attend to honor Mr. Lepper.
