After a long day of performing, giving a press conference and conducting
interviews, we met Ivan and Delfin on their way to the hotel.

eurovision.tv: Hi guys, nice to meet you. Since your lyrics are in Polish
language, can you briefly tell me what the song is about?

Ivan & Delfin: First of all, you have to bear in mind that the Eurovision Song
Contest is an international venue so we wanted to make a single that represents
many different cultural influences. ‘Czarna Dziewczyna’ contains so many
different styles and has a folky feel. We also mixed up the languages, Ivan
sings a part in Russian language – he is of Russian origin, so it is his native
language.

eurovision.tv: I was wondering about the folky feel because, when you look at
the history of the band, aren’t you more connected to the club scene in Poland?

Ivan & Delfin: We do play this song in the clubs and people really love it. So
there’s no need to change it, right? But as we just mentioned – we wanted this
kind of folk element, especially for the Eurovision Song Contest and the song
can be played in different mixes and versions. And we’re sticking to this kind
of music. Our biggest hits like ‘Jej Czarne Oczy’ (‘Her Black Eyes’) or ‘Let
Love Leave for 100 Years’ contain these elements.

eurovision.tv: At Eurovision, you can draw on your long experience of touring,
including in the US. Is there any difference between performing for an American
and a European audience?

Ivan & Delfin: Actually, it’s the same kind of audience because we mainly play
for Polish people, no matter where they live. Polish immigrants in the US like
us because we bring a bit of Poland over the ocean. Our music makes them feel
at home again. They miss their homeland and this is why our songs are very
popular in the US. We’ve already done two tours there and after Eurovision we
will do a third one. But coming back to the differences: we’d say that the only
difference is the audience’s reaction to Ivan – because they do also know him
from his TV appearances [Ivan is a well known actor who has starred in many TV
shows in Poland]

eurovision.tv: Okay, that’s obvious. Before you leave for dinner, let me allow
to ask just one more last question: can you tell us something about what you
expect from this year’s Eurovision?

Ivan & Delfin: Winning, of course [laughing]! No, to be honest – our main aim
is to reach the Final. After that, we will see, but we hope for the best. Our
performance is perfectly prepared, so we will do everything possible. The rest
depends on the audience.
