Capital to impose fines for urinating in public in attempt to fight
phenomenon of youths urinating in tourist hotspots

Almost all Jerusalemites know those spots well: They are all over the center
of town, out of sight, but well within nose's range. That's the reason
passersby who find it hard to hold it in just urinate in public.

The most illustrious public "toilets" are next to Zion Square, at the nearby
picturesque pedestrian mall of Nahalat Shiva, next to the
Italian synagogue and the cross streets. You can't miss these sites; the
heavy stench is unbearable.

To fight the trend, Jerusalem Municipality has decided to put up warning
signs near these "hot spots." Those who ignore the warning will receive a NIS
430 (approximately USD 90) fine. In addition, the city will offer a public
tender for the construction of public restrooms in the area.

Gidi Shmerling, Jerusalem Municipality spokesperson said that the move is
part of a plan to upgrade the city's appearance and hygiene.
