How do the British say...

IP: *.poznan.cvx.ppp.tpnet.pl 27.02.04, 13:27
Just a few questions, preferably for British Eng. native speakers.
Is the word "journeyman" still use in modern British Eng. If not, what
is "czeladnik " called? And what about "mistrz" for example in "blacharstwo
samochodowe"? (does "car tinsmithery" sound O.K.?)
How do you say "zakład rzemieślniczy", "przyuczenie do zawodu" and "uczeń"
in "zakład rzemieślniczy ".
I'd really appreciate your help.
Tess

      > Is the word "journeyman" still use - w Stanach tak:

      jour·ney·man ( P ) Pronunciation Key (jûrn-mn)
      n.
One who has fully served an apprenticeship in a trade or craft and is a
      qualified worker in another's employ.
An experienced and competent but undistinguished worker.

      "czeladnik " - Apprentice
"mistrz" - Master (np Master Carpenter)
      "blacharstwo samochodowe" -Car/Auto Body Shop
      "zakład rzemieślniczy" - Shop
"przyuczenie do zawodu" - job training
      "uczeń" - apprentice, (helper)

Thanks Alex. But from what you've said it's clear that apprentice is somehow
less tahn journeyman, namly uczeń vs. czeladnik. I need both words.
By the way What is "izba rzemieślnicza" and "cech" called in Britain?

Rzemieślnik to artisan. Warsztat czy pracownia to workshop.

Ah, polecam tłumaczenie, chociaż może powinnam na forum
      humorum:lakierniadygowo.webpark.pl/indexenglish.htm
      (nie używaj tego!!!!)
      Warsztat czy pracownia to workshop.

      A tak naprawiamy samochodzik:
      performancealliance.dupont.com/repairprocess.pdf
Blacharka (takie klepanie, nie?) to chyba: Auto body repair
