Work in USA - ask for advice

IP: *.neoplus.adsl.tpnet.pl 01.05.04, 00:45
I've been recently offered a seasonal job in USA (of course illegally) but I
am a bit doubtful about it. First, my earns are going to be unexpectedly
high, which I wasn't prepared for - it means 15 thousand dollars for two
months of everyday (12 hours a day) but reasonably light and pleasant work.
I'd be glad if someone who have worked already in USA imparted his experience
to me and said if this cash isn't suspiciously much. Second, I am afraid of
being arrested for working illegally and deported back to Poland - isn't it
connected with being put into prison until the deportation or with some
extremely high financial sanctions?

how did you get this offer? How did you find the employer?

That does sound a bit too good to be true. For general physical labor, under
the table, you can get about $10/hour, at least that's what i made when i
started painting houses here, and that was is a fairly prosperous city. If you
go on a fishing boat in alaska, you might be able to make that kind of cash,
but even then it would be on the high end. House cleaners can make ok money as
well, but not that much in 2 months.

That's not something worth worrying about. Immigration controls occur pretty
much only when you cross the border or if you are arrested on some other
criminal charge (like drunk driving.) Aside from that, nobody really cares if
you're legal or not. The police don't generally look into that, even if they
stop you for some reason, unless you are arrested/charged. (Although this has
      been changing somewhat since 9/11

...for all the useful information. I must be a little bit tired these days,
because I mistook in my calculations. Of course it's not 15.000 $ - it's four
times less. 15 tys. złotych! Now everything is clear - it isn't much money in
fact. If it wasn't for the lightness of the job and my other personal benefits
from it such as developing language skills (there will be a good opportunity
for that) I am not sure if I would agree. Basing on my calculations it's 5 $ an
hour - do you think I should try to negotiate more?
