      hi Rachel,
odpowiedziałam ci na innym forum, ale wkleję tekst tutaj, bo wolę to, a tam trafiłam przez przypadek:)

      Często robię tak:

      - korzystam z książki "English Vocabulary in Use" (poziom: upper-intermediate lub advanced).

        I agree with Amusedtodeath.

Additional materials can be very educational. Here's the link to the BBC web-
        site

Hope you'll have plenty of fascinating conversations.
        Kociamama.

How about the Philadelphia/Tampa Bay Hockey series. That should keep him
      interested!

I don't know this series at all. Could you write sth more? Are these regular
coursebooks? Are they available in bookstores?

      And one more thing!!

      Listening!!
Take some listening comprehension, yuo say it's a highlky advanced level, so
CPE let's say. They tend to have interesting pieces of recordnig in the
testbook for this exam, or from a CPE coursebook.

Play thse at the beginning of the lesson, and later talk about these, explain
some vocabulary, encourage the learner to use the new vocabulary while speaking.

      Later,
      Kociamama.
      • asia23bb Re: speaking-adult-help! 06.05.04, 16:44
Thanks, kociamama. I'll try although it's still about WHAT to talk about. We've
gone through almost all most interesting topics and I guess even listening
        pieces aren't sth very revealing....:(

        Cheers
        • amused.to.death Re: speaking-adult-help! 06.05.04, 16:48
          > gone through almost all most interesting topics

          not possible...;)
stop thinking that topics must be controversial or unusual.
well, some people talk to each other every day and they are never bored. Maybe something more down-to-earth?
          • asia23bb Re: speaking-adult-help! 06.05.04, 16:58
Sure, people do talk to each other every day, but, you must admit that these
are totally different conditions - I've seen the guy 3 consecutive days a week
for almost a year, that's one thing, and he's a very important and serious
person - I mean his interests are quite different than mine....What to talk
about then? We've covered: interests & hobbies, work, family, holidays,
weekends, travels, cinema & movies...etc. Please refresh my mind if you'd be so
            nice...:)
            Thx in advance

Have you tried newspapers? If newspapers have topics every day so should you :)
Pick something hot - economics, politics or - if you're not interested -
fashion, social issues, education, films... Perhaps you don't need to TEACH him
new vocabulary every time. He should be able to RECYCLE it now and then. If
he's got e-mail, you can send him a link in advance so you don't have to spend
time on reading. You can start talking after having done some comprehension
              tasks :)

Thanks Ines. Newspapers don't sound like sth new:), but to be honest, I've
never used them!:) Of course, I'll have to use the news with one-day
delay, 'coz my classes are in the morning, but still it should work.
                Cheers

Rachel, that's even better! You start with yesterday's news or weekend's news
and your student can freely add something new to it. For example, people talk
about "The Lord of the Rings" all the time - before it got the Academy Award
and looong after it :) Always a hot subject.

Well, yeah, you're totally right:) I will definitely try it out on Monday!
                    Thanks!!
